Network Problem - please help

Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

You don't have a valid IP address, that is what the release / renew does. so you need to perhaps re-set the adapter (you can disable and enable or try release and renew again or even just do the troubleshoot issues (right-click on network icon in status bar)

It *shouldn't* be your router causing it unless you have a static ip somewhere thats causing a conflict.

Hey guys

So today my ethernet internet said it was limited. I did a number of things, including restartiing my router and PC. So since nothing else worked, I decided to try these commands that someone on another site told another person to do that had my same problem in the command box in Windows 8.1 that should've attempted to reconnect to my router:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Except when I typed in ipconfig /release, it disconnected from the internet on the port(like it was supposed to do) but when I typed in ipconfig /renew, it just said: "Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else.

Not only that, but I'm completely disconnected from any internet, even if I restart everything.

So what do I do. Do I have to reset CMOS? Or is there another solution?

EDIT: Network is working fine on all other devices(iPad, iPhone, etc.)

use the reset button on your router

hold it for 10 seconds

this will reset the router to factory defaults

then see if the router works

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

just msg me on my profile

I'll try that but I'm pretty sure that what I typed in the command box is what happened.

Resetting the router didn't work. Still don't have access on the PC. Also it's not the router because I connect just fine on my iPad right now.

STOP JUST STOP

When you type renew you do have to wait for a while, usually a few seconds but it can take longer.
Check if you have a static Ip on the machine, maybe that IP is already assigned to a different device. If on DHCP then don't worry. (automatic)

Doing the troubleshooting process actually restored my adapter to get connections :). But now it still says limited. And the reason is actually the invalid IP configuration.

1. Press start button and type "network connection" and open it

2. In there you'll see ethernet icon, go to properties

3. In the list you can see now, double-click on the IPv4 line

4. If it is set to static, just click the button which sets it to automatic IP

5. Save and see what happens...

There's always a way...

Also I found that my adapter's(ethernet port) software package version is 1.0

Should I get the newest version of my network driver from the manufacturer on a flash drive, install it, and see what happens?
