These ^ ... If you want a Mic you can always get a cheap Zalman one and then move to Blue Yeti or something like that later ...

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

You're gonna start an argument somewhere. But if you need a pair of headphones now for under $100, I'd suggest the Hyper X Cloud 2's

However, if you don't need them now, I'd suggest saving up more for a better pair that will be far superiorto anything you'd be able to get for $100

Sony MDR-7506. You'll be surprised how good they are.

Only problem with them is that a lot of people find the treble to be far too peaky, and that the headphones as a whole are generally very fatiguing. I like them, but I would stay away from those if you're new to audio, at least until you can get some serious time with them to see if it's really something that you want.

From my experience - it's the best sound you'll ever get for ~$100. I've tried a lot of differenty headphones and yet haven't heard anything better than those. Another good thing about 7506 is thad you don't necessarily need a good expensive amplifier/sound card to experience the whole beauty of its' sound (but some good sound hardware wouldn't harm, though).

But I must admit - the bass is really emphatic, which is totally fine by me, but may cause some sort of dissatisfaction to one true audiophile.

Unless you're using some estats, or really demanding orthos, you don't actually need a powerful amp. I can run my HD650 on my onboard, and they sound just as good as when I plug them into my $1800 receiver or my sound card. According to the FR graph, the 7506 actually has pretty flat bass response, certainly much better than the MDR-V6. Perhaps it's the best sound for you, but there are certainly other headphones that have been released with technically better sound, as far as listening goes. The thing about the MDR v6/7506 is that they are built like absolute tanks. Anything and everything is replaceable, which is awesome, but you pay for that. The sound (IMO) is very good for the price, but definitely not the best. And, if he is going to be gaming, they are closed, and as I recall, the sound stage is rather narrow on those.

In my experience - gaming goes just fine, both multiplayer and singleplayer. Battlefield sound experience is astonishing. And there is no better way to hear your enemy's rocket flying at you in Quake Live)) But never mind me - I'm just a huge Sony fan, that's it)

Hey, I feel the sony love, man. I have a pair of Sony XB 1000, and the bass on those things is ridiculous...

Sennheiser HD 518 and Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. I've also seen the Sennheiser HD 598s for as low as $100, but that was a Black Friday thing.
