[Witcher 3] How is preloading possible without DRM?

Under_Score

GOG.com offers preloading on The Witcher 3. How is it possible to make sure you don't access the files on your computer before a specified time without using DRM?

Completely unrelated but your profile pic makes me giggle :D  it's probably just encrypted which isn't really DRM.

the game probably looks up the key based on  a server or time

the drm they are talking about is stuff like all ways on reporting and things like steam

or they just don't give you the key till release

As already said, the pre-loading files lacks some necessary files to play the game.

When the countdown is done, they'll put the remaining files up for download.

The files are encrypted until release date.

OP has a valid point. Encryption and game keys are forms of DRM.

ps- don't flame me. I don't have a problem with it. I like CD Projekt Red.
