Does my motherboard support Intel to?

Go to solution Solved by ImBleu,

No it doesnt. There are no cross-architecture motherboards on the market because Intel puts the pins in the socket, while AMD puts it on the CPU.

Hey guys wanting to know if I would need to buy a new motherboard if I wanted to swap out my CPU for a Intel CPU. My motherboard is ASUS M5A99X EVO Motherboard R2.

Nope, your motherboard has an AM3+ socket. Intel's newest CPUs are LGA1150 or LGA1155 or LGA2011

Actually, their newest CPU's are LGA 2011-V3 socket 5th-Gen Haswell-E processors.

My 5820k is Haswell-E, hence 5th generation Haswell.

Its fourth generation haswell, 5th gen is broad well, broadwell-e will still be 5th gen. Gen doesn't change when going from nth gen to nth gen-e

Nowhere on there does it say 5th gen. It doesn't even say 4th gen.

But seriously, I'm right.

You are very wrong. I am very wrong. We are both wrong. It's not under 5th Gen or 4th Gen on Intel's website. This says formerly Haswell-E. http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/79427/Haswell-E. Huh. Weird.

That's not the same thing that we're talking about.

Its a 4th gen chip, running on 4th gen haswell architectute, labelled with a 5 at the front. Nothing more.

It's Haswell, but it's not 4th Gen. It's the same 22nm architecture but not 4th Gen.

:/

Either, Intel names the Gens by Architecture, or it names the Gens by number.

If it's by number, you're right, else, i'm right.

Indeed, lol. I consider it 4th gen, because it still runs on the haswell architecture, and therefore, only has cores to benefit from "4th" gen cpus like the 4790k in my system. There's nothing about its architecture setting it apart, as it's the exact same.

It is way easier to classify generations by the front number rather than per architecture, but it looks like intel is kind of wishy washy with their classifications
