Hey guys, in a couple of months I want to update my PC, mainly the CPU and the case.

I am thinking of getting the NZXT H440 White Edition, I really like the look of the case and I like the amount of cable management that they allow in that case compared to the one that I have now (Coolmaster N400)

I don't know what CPU I want to get, I am thinking of the i7 4790/4790k but I don't think I will need the i7, So will a i5 4690k do?
I mainly play Counter Strike Global Offensive, Garry's Mod and a bunch of different Sim Racing games like Assetto Corsa.

I want to be able to play these games maxed out with solid fps. Here are my specs, should I bother updating it, or should I just leave it.

  • CPU
    Intel Pentium G3258 4.0GHz Dual-Core Processor
  • Motherboard
    ASRock H97M Anniversary
  • RAM
    Kingston Fury Blue Series 8gb 1600Mhz (2x4gb)
  • GPU
    Gigabyte R9 280 OC 3gb
  • Case
    Coolermaster N400 Windowed
  • Storage
    Seagate 1tb
  • PSU
    EVGA 600B 600w PSU
Windows 8.1 64bit Pro

Thanks

I would like to correct something you said

Unless your case is one of the hp prebuilds that have no cable managing room, then anything has more cable managing than the h440. Maybe not the pandora. But even it may have more room.

Honestly, for the sheer fact you have a H97 board I would recommend the Xeon 1231 V3. It's locked, but performs similarly to a 4790K and is $100 AUD cheaper.

But if you have to, a 4690K is a good choice.

For case, a Phanteks Enthoo Pro is AWESOME! It comes in white (I have a white one), it is made from quality materials (lots of metal) and is just a great case.

You may want an SSD instead, a Kingston Fury 120GB for your OS would be nice :)

He's right, it's an awesome case and comes with a lot of extras. I have the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe, the interior is the same, it comes with even more extra stuff and looks much better (in my opinion). But nothing can beat the Enthoo Pro in terms of price/performance.

Not with the one I have built, there is no cable managing holes or anything, the way the hard drives are placed is just shit and motherboard access is limited

@Phopphet @REX.exe Hey guys, I was looking at the Xeon 1231 V3, it looks like an awesome CPU, It performs awesomely. Should be getting 300+ FPS in CS:GO. And performs awesome in games like Battlefield Hardline and GTA V which was a game I was looking forward to playing on PC. What kind of FPS will the Xeon with a R9 280 3gb get on GTA V do you think? Also what kind of SSD should I get? Should I just buy a 60gb one for the OS?

Thanks

The 4690K is better for gaming in most cases. You see, Xeons have a slower cores than Core i* CPUs making them worse for gaming and better for more CPU intensive tasks like video editing and rendering. It does perform similarly to a 4790K though and is priced VERY nicely. I would wait for skylake as it may come with some real nice CPUs for gaming. I'm waiting for skylake anyway. You'll have to get a new motherboard though if you want a skylake CPU.
