Hello, I've seen while googling and searching on the Nvidia forums that all the PhysX calculations of Nvidia Gameworks can be passed to another GPU to handle, and since I have heard it has a great performance hit, and the fact that I have a 660 Ti in a second computer I can easily switch for it's original 7790, I thought why not try it ?

But I do have one concern, I read somewhere that using a dedicated PhysX GPU can harm the framerate if the card isn't up to the task.

Do you guys think a 660 Ti can handle all the Hair, Fire, Weather effects, Wind interaction and other PhysX related elements while my 970 does the rest ?

I will conduct testing of course, and report my findings here if anyone is interested, but I'd like to get an idea beforehand.

Thanks :)

I don't think it'll make a huge difference in performance, but in theory...

I'm starting to wonder if people just don't like the idea of dedicated physx cards on this forum. Almost everywhere I look online, people have very nice gains in performance with them.

It has been tested time and again that a secondary GPU solely for PhysX doesn't really do much in increasing performance.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

Nvidia has locked out PhysX cards if it detects any Radeon card. And in general, PhysX cards are never worth it.

You missread, I will be using a 970 and a 660 Ti in this PC, the 7790 is for the other one which I will take the 660 Ti from.

Thanks anyway, if it isn't worth it like you said, I won't get my case out because it is quite difficult.

I don't see how it would not help if it has the power necessary since it takes load off the principal card.

if i had to hazard a guess as to why it doesn't help much if at all.... i would have to guess that it would have to do with splitting the pcie lanes in half and the extra overhead needed to communicate with 2 different cards running two different tasks. again, just a guess.

people don't like it because it isn't viable if you take price in to consideration.

I got an x79 motherboard, it has enough lanes.

Oh... Since I already have the card that isn't a problem, so many people read in diagonal on this forum x)
