In GTA they will be about the same, in other games i3 will smash fx. not to mention fx is more expensive because you need an expensive mobo and cooler.

Could you not save on the gpu and spend a bit more on the cpu ?

an i5 and cheap mobo would only be a bit over the fx/i3 and would let you upgrade easier later .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

There's some misunderstandings here…

PCIe 3.0 is not required for a GTX 960. The GTX 960 is capable of taking advantage of PCIe 3.0 bandwidth, but no video cards actually need that much bandwidth anyway. In practice you can put any modern video card in a PCIe 2.0 port and it will run just as well.

Don't use a site like that to gauge hardware performance in games. So much is being boiled down that the result is no longer useful information. You need to see their test system, what video cards they were using, what stretch of gameplay they were using to test, their in-game settings and resolution, and the actual framerate (rather than some abstract percentage). Even better: minimum framerate, average framerate, and frame latency as well.

Most games only scale aggressively with up to four cores. That being the case, the fewer faster cores of the i3-4150 will usually meet or beat the FX-6300. GTA V is one case where I'd expect the 6300 to be approximately equal, though bear in mind that won't always be the case.

I3 performs massively better than any amd cpu in games and it also gives you the upgrade route to a I5 later.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I've personally tested my FX6300 using all cores and overclocked, it's equal to the i3 4150 in game performance

Most games don't use 6 cores. Get the i3 instead

The i3 is much better

PLEASE don't use game debate for benchmarks. That is the worst website out there

I use it for news. Its not bad at that. And it also helps for comparing my rig to minimum and reccomended system requirements.

Not good for much more than that though.
