Game capturing.

Cgermino89

Hey everyone. I was wondering what kind of software do you prefer to use to capture your gameplay? Look forward to seeing what everyone uses.

I used to use FRAPS, but that gave me problems. Then I used DXTory, but it didn't give me certain features. After I used Shadowplay, but that was giving me issues. So now I use OBS, it has the features I want from Shadowplay, but is much more versatile.

Hahaha. You can have fraps store recorded to a second drive? Sorry if it's a noob question.

fraps only absolutely no quality loss. Can do with the video whatever i want. Which is exactly what i want. I record to 3 1TB raptors in raid-0 so i also have no performance loss :).

I recommend:

  • FRAPS
  • OBS (really tough on computers though, especially the weaker ones)
  • CamStudio (light, free, no limits, no watermarks, easy to use)
  • DXtory

Fraps end up in HUGE files though, I recommend a big drive for that.

I'd definitely recommend OBS, I've been using it for a while after moving over from Fraps. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it's totally free and has a huge support community with plenty of plug-ins and settings to play with. Fraps is not a bad choice if you're willing to pay for it (it's pretty cheap for what it is) but not as flexible as OBS (not to mention the giant file sizes). I used Fraps with my old dual-core CPU because encoding on the fly would case severe performance loss, whereas Fraps had a minimal impact on performace in exchange for the harder-to-manage files. I suggest you try OBS first seeing as it's free, and hopefully you'll find you like it.

Sounds good. Doesn't hurt to try. :)
