Have I done right?

Go to solution Solved by Applesean,

Ok so after talking with both Gigabyte and Crucial i have fix the problem, I first asked crucial if there memory was ok with my board seeing as it was not on gigabytes list and they told me it was fine and i should ask Gigabyte if there was a BIOS setting i needed to change, gigabyte told me enable XMP so I did but the pc still crashed at 1600MHz, so i then put the voltage up from 1.5v to 1.55v and that has worked now got my pc stable at 1600MHz

Thanks again everyone for help

System Build

AMD FX6300

Gigabyte 970A-UD3P

Sapphire Radeon DuelX R9 270X

2x4GB DDR3 Ballistix PC3- 12800 CL9, 1.5v

Corsair CX600 PSU

Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD

OS Windows 7 home (64bit)

I built this pc following a guide on YT, I'm new to pc gaming/building and didn't have a clue on how to build one, everything went fine only took about a hour and a half to put all the parts together but i had major problems when putting my OS on. The pc would either freeze or crash when trying to install the OS, it took about 9 hours of google/youtube and head banging till i got it stable,

it was a setting in the BIOS for system memory multiplier witch was on auto 8/1600mhz i put this down to 4/800mhz and the OS installed and everything has been running smooth since, the problem is i don't know if what i did was the right thing to do, i have notice when using PC wizard that my ram wasn't running in DDR3 my sticks can run DDR3 is it my mobo that cant? I have learned alot about pc's since building this ( thank you LTT) but can not get my head around this one nd google or YT don't want to help me this time either

Any help would be very much appreciated Thanks.

Have you put the sticks of RAM in the right slots? Put them in the one closest to the CPU, and the third one away from the CPU :)

This. Check your mobo manual to make sure you have the DIMMs in the proper channels. They should be able to run at their default 1600MHz.

I've read the manual and found out i had the wrong drivers, i had the (rev 1.0) when mine was (2.0) not major but i fixed it, I then tried to go back to 1600mhz but i froze with awful sound before i got to desktop, i then went down 1 to 1333mhz but crashed after 5 min of being at the desktop,( back at 800mhz now)  I'm not a major pc user and dont want anything but to play games and it dose that fine.

will getting it to 1600mhz help me in anyway?  Because if 800mhz is all i need then im fine not fixing it i mean i still got my 8gb of ram.

this is what pc wizard is telling me sorry it's just a copy and paste don@t really understand much of it

Maybe a bad stick of ram? Try memtest86 to find ram errors. @neebuilda @Applesean

Trying that now burning the cd, my logic was when i turned down the MHz was that the mobo supports 32 gb of ram i had 8gb so it was at 8 1600MHz i thought 8gb stick, that's why i put it down to 4 800Mhz  thinking i had 4gb sticks.... logic never wins with pc's

yeah normally we turn down speed on gpu and cpu if not stable, also. Means you should probably rma if thats the case, if anything doesn't perform to spec, send it back. You should get 0 errors with memtest86, if you get a error take the stick out and try with one stick, run agaim.

Thanks i hope it is a bad stick i dont like the thought of paying and not getting what i paid for... so far on 32% with no errors and 1 iteration (whatever that means)

Yeah the test passed with 0 errors, the only thing i can think now is that i messed something up in the BIOS, but then again the only reason I started messing in the BIOS was to find the problem of my pc crashing, would it be worth putting the BIOS settings on default? or is there a chance the mobo could be bad?

Check for a BIOS update as both your Mobo and RAM support 1600Mhz.

EDIT: The RAM you have is not on the officially supported ram list
Normally this is not an issue, but if you have another PC or you can get access to another PC running DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM, I would put that in your new machine and see if It is stable at 1600Mhz

Definitely try a reset.

Did you run memtest+ with the RAM at 1600MHz or 800MHz? That could make a big difference in the results.

If the reset to default doesn't do the trick then I would bet pretty heavily on the RAM being the culprit here. I think @TDP_Equinox has a solid idea with trying another different set if you can.

I don't think the BIOS default was a good idea. It has taken me this long to get my pc up again, I kept on crashing at start up ( same point every time) and no system repair or restore was working, not even the one on my windows 7 dvd, I thought it was because the system crashed when ram was reset to 1600MHz messing up the start up  but it was sata chip thing being on AHCI when i needed native IDE, anyway i think you guys are right about me needing diferent ram, I will buy one from that list  but this will have to wait to end of month before i buy it I will leave this topic open till then.... also i think i ran memtest86 at my stable 800MHz so i will try 1600MHz tomorrow as it's 3am now and that thing took like a hour

I mainly built this for the witcher 3 low to mid settings i know but i have been playing the 360 for the last 7/8 years so all good for me, and there not 1 game on steam that i cant handle neverwinter i was getting between 60 and 40 fps, planetside 2 ran fine as well, so what problems can this 800MHz cause in games?

I'm rambling now witch i read not to do so thank you all very much for your time and help it is very much appreciated

I'd go back to crucial because you shouldn't have to overvolt your RAM just to get it to run at the advertised speeds.
