It's overkill. A decent 400w would already be plenty.

Overkill? The estimated wattage is ~350. I suggest getting ATLEAST 500 watts.

That power supply is fine. Just enough IMO

Estimated wattage from psu calculators tend to be unreliable. Stick to power draw benchmarks instead.

Is the power supply in this build to powerful or to much? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8ZnqJx

You might want to go Intel if it's for gaming. You can get a G3258 and an H81 overclocking board like the MSI H81M-E34. The CPU is great when it's overclocked, especially for gaming. Or you can get a Z97 board so you could perhaps go all the way up to a 4790K if you ever have the cash.

Happy building!

PS: @Bravosgrad he spent so much because he needs the monitor too, and he wants the SSD for boot. I don't blame him my build to start was expensive, but peripherals and case and such will allow me to spend under $1000 for a significant upgrade.

Dual Boot Windows & Hackintosh

CPU: Intel 4790K | Motherboard: ASUS Maximus Hero Vii | GPU: Zotac AMP! Extreme GTX 970 | Display: ASUS PB278Q | Case: Phantom 630 | PSU: Corsair HX1000i

Canada eh?

Okay... Did you add all the parts together?

CPU: 190 watts

GPU: 237 watts

Rest of components: ~50 watts

Total: 477 watts

237w is the power draw of the entire system including the oc'ed 3960x.

Oh whoops.

CPU: 190 watts
GPU: 119 watts
Rest of components: ~50 watts
Total: 359 watts

You still have to remember 80+ rating power supplies produces 80% of their possible power at their lowest point.

You're putting together theoretical numbers. Look at power draw benchmarks instead.

That's not how efficiency ratings work. A 400w psu should be able to output 400w regardless of efficiency. If it's 80% efficient, it will draw 500w from the wall to do so.

Thanks Bro! Plus I'm new and wanted to use parts that were reviewed and are know to work.
