My Internet Speed

Okay so where I live I'm paying for 12mb/s internet. ( :angry: Its all they they are wiling to do in the country) But when I am downloading stuff off of the internet and off of steam the max I download speed I can get off of steam is 1.5mb/s.. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the full power?

steam measures in megabytes per second. everything else measures in MBPS

I am using Ethernet right now. Maybe if I got better cable to run to my pc??

12mbps = 1.5mb/s

mbps != mb/s

This is correct ^ When you are paying for download spee you are paying for MegaBITS per second and your download speed is registered in MegaBYTES per second.  1megabit per second = .125 megabytes per second.

You are paying for 12 Megabits per second, therfor 1.5 megabytes per second

Because your ISP advertises your speed in megabit and Steam (and more download stuff) as megabyte

1 megabyte = 8 megabit.

Meaning 12 Mb(megabits)/s (what your ISP says you have) = 1.5 MB (Megabytes)/s

Wow, those are all a rip-off, for one. But, that's to be expected. 

 

Honestly, unless you get lag and buffering issues right now, your current is fine. 

 

According to your graph, it's an extra $30/mo to go from 12 to 20. That's freaking rediculous. And I would not pay that.
