So with the recent acquirement of a job I am looking to build a new system to use as my main rig.

I am currently using a Core 2 Quad Q6600 with a Dell Vostro 400 Motherboard and 8gb of DDR2 ram (800 something Mhz).

I was planning on going full out on LGA 1150 with a Xeon or waiting for Skylake but my mind changed and I realized I am not ready to let go of LGA 775 for a while.

I wanted to know if anyone could recommend some LGA 775 boards New from amazon? I plan on keeping the Q6600 but want to overclock it.

Also if there is any ram that will work with the boards because from what I have seen they get picky on what type of DDR3 they use.

Thanks!

If you chose to stick with 775 there it will be quite bad in most modern games, BF4 GTA V.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Looks like you are from the US or not in my country since I don't have Amazon but otherwise I would have a nice board for you laying around :)

I have a 650 ti Boost and I have actually been running GTA V perfectly fine, I am also not a big gamer and GTA V is probably the most intensive game I play.

Well the higher end Q9xxx series and Xeons (may require some modding) can run BF4 pretty well.

If I where the op I would stick with 775 for now and then when skylake gets released pick up some cheap lga 1150 stuff.

I would do the same and yeah these Xeons go for dirt cheap like 20/30 bucks but you need a 771/775 sticker and possibly a newer BIOS.

Can't you just do a bios update on it though?

Well you have socket 775 Xeons but the 771 give you even more performance and 8/10 times they work on regular 775 boards but you will need to do the following:

Seems like quite a lot of hassle but if it's what the op wants to do then it's his choice.

I might do an lga 775 to 771 mod if I pick up more than one of the 775 boards. I love the Xeon line so it would be my dream system.

Dude that's like 10 minutes of work.

Life's to short.

I don't see any reason why he shouldn't do it, I personally wouldn't do it but it doesn't look to hard.

But since he has a Dell motherboard it most likely won't work due to their crappy BIOS.

And I personally wouldn't invest in a new board.

If he dosen't mind running the risk then I don't see why he shouldn't try it.

From what I can see the boards are only around $60-$70, I have so many socket 775 possessors but no motherboard to overclock them on so personally it would be a great investment for me. I will go for the latest and greatest down the road once needed but I am already far behind in everything so...  :D

Mine didn't. I didn't get anywhere near a 1600MHz FSB from mine :(
