I have a Intel i5 4690k CPU, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and an ASRock Z97M Pro4 motherboard and I would like to know, what do you guys think would be a perfect GPU to fit into this build for me to be able to play GTA V at 1080p medium-high settings and around 60+ FPS?

NOTE: I am currently looking toward getting the GTX 970, do you guys think that would be a good fit for my current build and to be able to run GTA V very good? If not, please recommend me a card :)

The GTX 970 and R9 290X are both good choices. I can run 1440p mixed High/Ultra settings at 60+ FPS.

A 280x or 960 could do that

Pretty much anything nVidia 960 and over. AMD doesn't do as well and has a few glitches.

I can max it out on a single 1080p screen with my 970. Run it about high/medium-ish on all three of my 1080p screens. Maybe not a perfect 60fps, but definitely playable.

I think anything with 3+ GB of VRAM will do, i run 2 GTX 760(2GB) in SLi and get 70FPS but have to drop the texture detail down. i can run most of the settings on high to very high. Remember GTA V was made for the the X Box 360 and Playstation 3, so its render engine is very optimized.

Great excuse, never heard anybody who has a AMD card has had glitches in GTA 5. 15.4 is needed anyway

960 is a ripoff card, 280X is a better value instead.

970 is around a 290 to 290X.

If your planning for higher res in future, then a R9 290/X may be the better choice.

It's undeniable that gta 5 performs better on NVidia than on AMD.

The GTX 970 is phenomenal for GTA V. I'm running it on a Xeon E3-1231v3 CPU with an EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 at stock speeds, and I get a locked 60 FPS with vsync on at 1080p with the following settings:

REGULAR SETTINGS:

LPuHzPT.png

n3dk0Nt.png

ADVANCED SETTINGS:

wfQhR9B.png

So in the regular settings I have everything maxed out, except.

1. Grass is on very high since ultra is a big performance hit in the country.

2. Motion blur is off, because it's more a setting for making 30 fps look good, but who needs it when you can push 60 fps?

3. MSAA is off since I usually don't find it worth the performance hit. This also disables TXAA.

4. Reflection MSAA is off.

Note most of those are maxed out at very high or high, as ultra is only available for a couple of settings.

In the advanced settings I only have the streaming while flying on, since it cuts down a bit on pop-in when flying (though there is still plenty of pop-in even with the Titan X according to Nvidia). Overall the game looks unreal at these settings and the performance is rock solid.

I spent about an hour or two the other day trying to find the settings I liked most while playing in the city, country, highway, streets, and in the air, and these make the game butter smooth with really high image quality on my E3-1231v3 + GTX 970 combo, which is about as powerful as your i5-4690k + GTX 970 would be with your CPU at stock speed. GTA V is a truly outstanding port to perform the way it does with such great image quality.

Dude, why are you so defensive lately? I should rephrase that. Anything card below GCN 1.2 has artifacting problems. This has been on the forum many times. So, the 285, 290, and 290X are fine. But the 280, and 280X have bad artifacting. I've experienced this first hand. GTAV also runs much better on nVidia cards. 970 is the best choice ATM.

The OP is asking about 1080p performance and as those graphs prove, at 1080p nVidia performs better. I like to think that my 7950 is a better card than the 285 or 960, and when overclocked, it probably is, but in gta5 it just doesn't happen.

Yeah ik, i said that it gets different at higher res.

970 and 290X perform right around the same at 1080P.

Never said anything about 980 and 290X....
