need help planning my build

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

wouldn't the ice evaporate and isn't moisture a bad thing for a computer. and what do u mean by an AC?

You asked how to make air colder. I've used bucket of cold water for my feet next to my tower without problems. Besides, ice doesn't evaporite, it melts. And water doesn't get that hot that it would evaporate. It just cools air around it.

AC = Air Condition unit. Like room fans but instead of just circulating same air, it makes air cooler and transfers hot air out of the room.

I will be building a computer soon and I have some questions (or maybe just crazy ideas)

do u guys think of having an SSD for windows and a hard drive for other stuff? how much extra it would cost? what  (exept of programs themselfs) can I put on to them to make my system faster? would it create any slowdowns or noice increase on the haard drive? (because it has to access a different drive to come to the files)

what does having too big power supply does (https://youtu.be/lqThn3C-zg4?t=1m28s) when he says lower efficacy does it mean more heat or lover performance?

or

I also found a video about cpu cooler on a gpu. Is that a good idea?

what about putting in 2 procesors and dedicate the old one to antivirus and another processes and a new one and dedicate it to the game or can I have an order on my RAM that I give 4gigs of new RAM and 4gigs of old and to configure my computer to use the new ram and if it is full use old RAM

what about using old parts like an old CD reader?

what out using a room fan and I direct it into the direction of the computer fans?

what about using Silicone Fan Fasteners or Hard Drive Enclosures or Acoustic Foam?

what about using aan old drive aas an recovery drive?

P.S.: I am trying to build a computer for gaming and I don't care how it looks. I only care about performance, coolness and quietness. please if you know any of these questions please answer

EDIT: is there any part that produce heat and could be left outside the case

Ok the efficiency of the psu is referring to it's rating, gold titanium bronze, and it's simply refering to how efficent the psu is at providing power without wasting energy.

Definetley get a ssd.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Most modern gpus have a good enough cooler on them to cool themselves with some very high overclocks on them so no need to mod it.

You could use 1 stick of ram form your old pc and get 1 new one as long as they are both DDR3 memory.

No point in getting a new optical drive.

The fans should pull in a enough air on there own without needing extra help form an external source.

If you want a silent case then I would recommend fractal desine as they have all of that sound dampening material pre put on. It's not really worth using an old drive as a backup as it will probably die before any new drive would.

If you want me to put you together a component list just tell me how much money you have to spend on it and I will get you the best bang for buck system you can get.

SSD as boot and programs drive HDD for storage = GOOD

I would say don't exceed 50% more power rating than you need for a PSU.  By this I mean if your build requires say 500w, you won't gain anything by getting a PSU over 750w.

Don't go 2 processors, waste of money for what I believe you plan to use it for.

If you CD-Rom drive has a SATA connector sure if not get a new one they can be had for $20.

Room fan......... no, if your fans can't bring enough air into the case the room fan might actually make it worse messing with the airflow.

Silicon fasteners.... no, foam maybe.

Using an old drive as a recovery drive works providing the drive is still in good shape.

thank you a lot for your advice, but I was thinking about modding the gpu to make it quiter and cooler, do u think giving a cpu heatsink will help me?

Really it's not worth it just get a card with a good cooler on it like the gigabyte ones and that would be enough.

That is lot of questions. I try to answer as many as I can. It would be easier to use numbering but I'll play with quotes instead.

I will be building a computer soon and I have some questions (or maybe just crazy ideas)

Having both SSD and HDD is normal for new PCs. You get nice little space for windows and your most used software and games. The cost depends on what kind of setup you go for. I would recommend getting 256gb SSD and 1Tb HDD for starters. Having stuff on HDD and running stuff from it doesn't increase noise or cause slowdowns. Sure things starting from it will be slower than with SSD but most cases you won't notice it. And if you do, move those to SSD, thats what you bought it for. Noise level will depend on HDD but they all make noise while operating.

I also found a video about cpu cooler on a gpu. Is that a good idea?

No. Unless you mean putting 120mm AIO on GPU. That is good idea. Others are generally worse than using real GPU cooler. Besides, I wouldn't worry over noise if you get one with aftermarket cooler to begin with (anything with 2-3 fans). Those aren't that loud.

what about putting in 2 procesors and dedicate the old one to antivirus and another processes and a new one and dedicate it to the game or can I have an order on my RAM that I give 4gigs of new RAM and 4gigs of old and to configure my computer to use the new ram and if it is full use old RAM

You will need server motherboard to use 2 CPUs. Trust me, i5 will be enough and if you want to spend more, get normal i7. Not the X99 ones. Whats the old RAM? If its DDR2 you can't even use it. And if its slower than what new RAM will be, the new one is downclocked to old ones speed. You can setup how software prioritises the resources of PC.

what about using old parts like an old CD reader?

If its SATA drive, you can use it.

what out using a room fan and I direct it into the direction of the computer fans?

Are you having problem with temps? Whats the room temp? If you are gonna blow warm room temp to PC, thats not gonna help.

what about using Silicone Fan Fasteners or Hard Drive Enclosures or Acoustic Foam?

For fans pain to install and I didn't notice difference. For HDDs definitely. I have currently on two drives and loving them. One extra waiting in package.

what about using aan old drive aas an recovery drive?

You mean as backup drive? Sure. If its SATA, you don't even need any adapters.

EDIT: is there any part that produce heat and could be left outside the case

HDDs. But SATA speeds are faster than USB so real answer is no. Tell me if you really are having temp issues, because I doubt it. CPU can run as high as 75C 247 without problems. GPU about same. HDDS are usually under 50C.

I think my room temp is about normal (~20c) I want it to last for long time or maybe over clock it (but I herd that over-clocking your computer can corrupt your data, so probably I wont). Is there any way of cooling the air before it comes in the computer?

PS; thank you SOO much for answering all my questions

If you have one hanging around that you don't want to sell, or don't mind potentially breaking then sure, feel free to experiment. Don't go off and buy a used or old GPU for testing things with though, use that money on your rig.

thanks for all your advice

Overclocking doesn't effect your data. You can burn out your CPU with it, but that is unlikely if you follow guides and common sense. With that low room temp I wouldn't worry over temps. I've ran my mild 4.0GHz OC (1.15V) 1.5 years now with room temps varying from winter 23C to summer 33C. All air cooling. On gaming I get max 67C for CPU and 73C for GPU (560Ti). Running OC with high constant temps and really high voltages will take some years off its lifetime. But when we are talking about 10 years of lifetime to start with, you will more likely upgrade before it dies on you. Don't worry about it.

As for cooling air before it enter PC. There are only ghetto ways to do it. They are same as what you do to cool your self. Place bucket of ice next to intake, get AC, place intake next to open window. But again, your room temp is already pretty low. Those would help if we were talking about 25-35C room temps.
