Hi there, I am planning on building my second computer..... but I have very little knowledge when it comes to computer hardware.

Here is what I'm looking into http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/bzDJXL

I would like some advice on which parts to switch out because my budget was originally $2000, if you can recommend some parts to "downgrade" that won't impact performance much that'd be appreciated!

Some key features i'm looking towards are....

blue theme

*high performance for streaming, editing and high end gaming. (1440p)

*i'd like it be be quiet yet cool

 - thanks

nobody buys AMD CPUs these days, not for gaming.  They are way behind Intel.

Swap the CPU for either Intel 4790k or 4690k, and any Z97 based motherboard.  If it comes down to price, get the 4790k and use the stock cooler.  It is a much better value than getting the 4690k with fancy cooling.

Realistically, for mostly gaming the 4690k is fine.

i'm torn on the cpu, because amd is rather poo for gaming, but the 9370 might do better with streaming and editing. (now, i have to say that my non-OC 4790K is doing excellent in the streaming section already)

an i7, an air cooler and intel mobo might actually end up cheaper (i7s dont really benefit from a large liquid cooler too much)

i'll work on a build, and edit it into this post, or (probably) add it under the comments that follow me.

so i got this for an intel build under 2K.

4790K, 16GB ram (had good luck wit vengeance LP myself, together with legendary cooler compatibiliity.

as for the air cooler: less fans -> less noise, and the i7 will be just fine like that.

picked up an sli compatible mobo, in case you ever feel like upgrading.

the twist to bring cost down was to go with a smaller SSD, if you're good about storage, and dont pile everything onto the SSD, it'll be more than fine.

thanks! i'm still learning so i appreciate the advice. also that's much better, i'm glad the price could be chopped down a bit! I was also looking into getting dual 980s eventually so that MB is perfect! although it's color isn't perfect, but i'll manage.

I did this build in your other thread yesterday, well under $2000 and more than adequate at 1440p. Also a killer blue/black theme

I took all the parts Lee showed me, but i swapped out the case with the Corsair 780T. Was that an unwise choice? I figured it would give me a lot of room to add parts down the line, and it looks damn sexy! I like the idea of being able to see the Fan LEDs on the front of the case.

The 780T is a very good case. You can always change the front fans for blue led ones.

Only thing I'd do is swap that Cpu for a i7-4790k and make that 980 a GTX 970. It's not worth it.

Also don't do dual 980s, You misewell get a titan x superclocked for the same prices so dual. PLUS you will not need more then a GTX 970, plus dual GTX 970s run a fair bit better then a single GTX 980 at a little bit more. But yeah by then misewell get a Titan x

He is going with the i7 4790K as per My spec above.

Alirght but that 980 should be a dual 970 if he wants 1440p make it a dual GTX 970, make it a 750w PSU. Plus the CPU cooler you could make that a x41 and possibly get some G.SKILL RipJaws X the blue one to'go with his theme for ike $15 less and he'd still be at about $2000

A GTX 980 will run 1440p very well, plus if He ever wants to go 4K then He has a better platform to build off.

The 850W psu is only around $10 more than the 750W. Might as well have extra room for overclocking seeing as the budget allows it.

The Phanteks cooler is better than the X41.

The G.Skill Ram probably won't fit under the Phanteks cooler so that is the reason for the Kingston ram as it is low profile.

Yeah get a intel CPU, I love AMD, but their current CPUs kinda suck :(

Ummm guys... Stop fanboying. AMD is TOTALLY fine for single card setups. it doesn't bottleneck at all, and the extra cores are great for streaming.

Here is what I reccomend. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/RmZzxr

The 8350 will save you $100 and give you about if not the same performance once you overclock it abit. I use the asrock board for my 8350 and have overclocked the hell out of it, no problems yet.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

i'm not fanboying, i'm talking from experience. while AMD has its place in the market, its not together with a GTX980.

a friend of mine had his FPS drop by nearly half in some games when switching from a 4790k to an 8350.
