Ummm guys... Stop fanboying. AMD is TOTALLY fine for single card setups. it doesn't bottleneck at all, and the extra cores are great for streaming.

Here is what I reccomend. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/RmZzxr

The 8350 will save you $100 and give you about if not the same performance once you overclock it abit. I use the asrock board for my 8350 and have overclocked the hell out of it, no problems yet.

That spec shows that you don't have a clue what you are talking about. First off you have chosen a motherboard that doesn't support SLI. Secondly you have chosen an 850W power supply.....why ?

The i7 4790K will beat an FX-8350. For gaming it has far stronger single core performance. For things like Video editing/Rendering etc it will be faster.

Let me explain myself. I picked that motherboard and CPU because his budget was $2000. A 4790k is an extra $100. the i7 doesn't fit in the budget very well. He wanted to lower the price, without loosing performance for gaming and streaming. The 8350 does that just fine. yes the 4790k will kick the 8350's butt, but the budget doesn't allow it very easily.

The motherboard doesn't have SLI because I would not SLI with a 8350. It isn't the best option, so... I just didn't give him the option and saved like $20

The powersupply I just left there, minus well have the extra wattage. he could live without the 850watt though.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

i'm not fanboying, i'm talking from experience. while AMD has its place in the market, its not together with a GTX980.

a friend of mine had his FPS drop by nearly half in some games when switching from a 4790k to an 8350.

I have never had that problem. But maybe he plays different games then I.

You are missing the point. I already did a spec for $2K with an i7 4790K included so how does it not fit the budget ?

But you have lowered performance though. The i7 4790K will outperform an FX-8350. If you have proof otherwise than please share it. Heck even an i5 will beat it in most situations.

If you would not SLI with an 8350 then why leave the 850W psu in there ?

well then whats the issue? Your build is superior so why even bring up mine?

He originally had a 9590 which is just a factory overclocked 8350. By telling him to go with the 8350, and overclocking it would save him $100.

The thing with the 8350 is everyone keeps fanboying. with a single card setup even a 980. Yes a i5 will beat it with single core performance. But its good enough. It won't bottleneck your GPU, it gives you some extra cores if you want to do streaming or video work. Soo why spend an extra $200 for 2more frames when he is building this rig for gaming and streaming...

Because I saw the gold certified, and didn't see a need in searching for a different one. It met the specs, and by having some extra wattage it gives overclocking room, and when he decides to upgrade or build a new rig he won't have a problem with power.

so, in case we havent scared @Raybeze away with fanboyism yet, i've refined my build a bit.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/RvcGMp

4790k will give loads of performance, while being cool & quiet.

be quiet cooler my girlfriend has been really enjoying in her build.

black&blue themed motherboard (i feel like an idiot for screwing this up the first time...)

trusty corsair vengeance LP, 16GB of it.

slightly cheaper SSD, the 850EVO should perform more than needed.

2TB HDD for games and bulk storage

500GB HDD dedicated to recordings, and editing. (so you dont torture/fill up the 2TB HDD for this)

GTX980, as first requested.

the case was the hardest pick, decided to go for the corsair 450D, as it seems to have plenty of room, and bays, while also having the option of having blue LED fans visible in the front.

tried to find a better pick for the PSU, but this seems to be an all-around best option.

DVD burner as requested.

all in all, budget ends up right at the $2000 CAD mark.

The original spec has an FX-9370 in it unless he altered it.

The issue is that you are telling the op (Or suggesting) than an amd cpu build is just as good as an i7 when it clearly isn't. Why would you settle for something that is just 'good enough' when you have the budget for something better ?

Video editing and streaming will be far better with the i7. Also as the op is running a 1440p monitor then He might want to add a 2nd GTX 980 when games get more demanding. Your spec doesn't give him that option. You also cannot compare an 8 core fx cpu to an Intel i7 as the cores on the FX are a lot weaker.

If the op wanted the cheapest available spec and didn't care about performance then maybe the fx series would make more sense. Even then I would probably go with a locked i5.

It doesn't make sense to get that 500GB HDD. You can get a 1TB Seagate for an extra $2 if you wanted a separate drive.

The EVGA NEX is also pretty average. The G2 version is far better.

Yea, either way the 9xxx series is just binned and factory overclocked 8xxx series.

No, the i7 is more powerful. But! for the price the 8350 is perfectly fine. It will meet his needs, so why go overboard? I did not look into intel. You did, and found it to be the same price for better performance. You win.

His budget was 2k, I just fixed the obvious issues which was he was spending an extra $100 for a overclock that he could do on his own.

The issue with a locked i5 is it will not handle streaming without bring your performance way down well gaming. the extra cores are good for that. Streaming wants lots of fairly powerful cores, not a few powerful cores in the instance of a locked i5. If you have the money to go i7 or xeon,(which he does, you proved that) then do it.

i just grabbed a decent brand 500GB tbh, by any means feel free to improve on my build.
