Ok I'm running the F@h client on three of my computers (2 desktops & 1 ultrabook) the best CPU out of the three is a Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz. I'm running only the smp slot on it and only geting around 1.5k to 2k PPD on it. Is anyone running a folding machine with the same CPU if so what is your PPD on it?

That is also about the same as what I get on my Core2Duo's as well...

As others have said, the core 2 duo isn't that fast in today standard.

I have a Pentium T2390 @1.86Ghz (mobile cpu that's based on the core 2 duo) and it only gets about 1k to 1.2k ppd (depends on if i'm running windows (lower ppd) or ubuntu (slightly higher ppd) on it). So @2.4 Ghz, that sounds about right.

Although i'm kinda surprised that you said your core 2 duo desktop was the fastest of the 3 systems (dont know about your other desktop but an ultrabook is somewhat easy to guess what cpu it is running).

I would of thought that the ultrabook core-i(3/5/7) would match or exceed that core 2 duo PPD...... While my family doesn't have a core i3 or 5 cpu's (nor ultrabooks), My dad has a first gen i7 laptop (720QM @1.6Ghz) and that got around 5k ppd when i tested it a few years ago.

Just factoring 2 things:

1. that 2nd gen core-i cpu is a little bit faster than a 1st gen core-i cpu at the same Ghz, so i would guess a 2nd gen 1.4 Ghz cpu would be about the same performance as a 1.6-1.8 ghz 1st cpu

2. an i3 has half the cores/threads of an i7

*not factoring any turbo boost*

So with all that, i would of thought that a second gen core i3 @ 1.4GHz (slowest cpu I know of for an ultrabook, but I could be wrong on that) would be able to reach around to 2k to 2.5k PPD at minimum. (more ppd with higher Ghz and/or tier core-i Cpus)

Like said, I haven't own or tested someone else ultrabook to try out so I cant back up my numbers (doesn't help that ultrabooks are practically nonexistence in the F@H world), but just factoring cpu generations, speed, and cores, I would of though you would get the same or more PPD with the the ultra book over a Core 2 duo system....

Ya the 'ultrabook' that I'm talking about is a 11" MacBook Air. It's running off of a Core 2 Duo @ 1.4GHz. It's not a ultrabook by Intel's new standards but, I tend to call it one.

Ah. that explains it.

When I run my Notebook with a P8600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz I get around 2K depending on the WU.

Compared to my desktop i3 2120 @ 3.3GHz witch is running around 12K so yes the core 2's are getting old...

my core i5 3570k oc'ed is getting around 8k...

What GHZ? Mine is 4.2 Ghz and is only pulling 3k when I'm watching, but always ends up doing more.

what does PPD stand for?

What ever floats the boat I guess. lol

Although if you ever go to other teams forums/site or the F@H official forum, "points per day" is what PPD means. So just to clear up any confusion.

There are a few other short types for words that i know of That I might as well mention,

"WU = Work Units

PPD = Points per Day

PPW = Point per Watt or Points per Week.

TPF = Time per Frame

WTF! = Way to fold!"
