Which would come out with better performance in gaming?

i5 4690k with R7 260X  or  AMD A10 6800K with R7 260X
(both with stock settings/no overclocking)

If the rest of the parts is a factor, here they are:

-ASRock Z97M Pro4 Motherboard (Intel) or ASRock FM2A85X (AMD)

-750 Watt PSU

-Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 RAM

I5 has miles better performance.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Really? You are comparing a CPU that costs 120 bucks with one that costs 250 buck and ask which one has the highest performance..

For a R7 260x id recommend a:

Athlon 760k/860k - FM2/+ motherboard
FX 4300/50 - AM3+ motherboard(Preferibly a 990fx for upgradability and overclocking)

G3220(No overclocking) - H81 motherboard
G3258(Overclocking) - Z97 motherboard

Well, the A10 6800K's stock frequency is at 4.1 GHz, which is quite a distance from the stock of i5 4690k. These two CPUs look kind of close in power to me.

Lol no it's not even close. Not all Ghz are created equally, the 4690k absolutely crush the 6800k.

Clock speed doesnt mean anything nowadays.

The frequency doesn't actually matter much. The Instructions Per Clock and the frequency is what matters more.

Clock for clock is not a good way to compare.

The i5 is superior in every way. And you'll need an FM2+ board to run the APU.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Can't compare cores/speed.  They mean next to nothing.

Its all about architecture and IPC.  The Intel i5 is by far superior.

That build is very unbalanced.  Where are you located, what is your overall budget, and what is the purpose of this build?

Ghz have nothing to do with performance, but how they are made (More advanced Litography, cache memory with faster data flow, even distribution and segmented nodes, greater amount of transistors, etc) and the Intel I5 4690K oced to 4.8Ghz is better than an AMD FX 9590 at 7.2Ghz for an example :P.

The Intel choice is way better. And if you aren't going to OC why get the Intel 4690K when you could save about $20 if you just get the Intle 4690?

I'm upgrading from my A10 6800K to a i5 4690k. I just wanted to see if this was a good idea, and apparently, everyone's saying the i5 wins by far, so I'll be definitely going for it.

In gaming with that GPU you probably won't notice much of a difference. Upgrade your GPU next.
