Hey everyone,

I need some input on memory for my first build. I am looking at Crucial DDR3 Ballistic Tactical because I thought having LEDs would be kind of cool. However I wanted a more experienced point of view on whether Crucial produces good memory. Or if anyone has any better options in mind for memory with integrated LEDs. I'm not completely set on memory with integrated LEDs either so if Crucial memory isn't a good choice and there aren't any better options for memory with LEDs that is ok, I will be glad to receive any input

Thanks,

Tyler

I haven't heard anything bad about crucial memory so it should be fine.

Most major brands are fine. Performance wise there's not much difference either if you're just gaming. Just get what looks best for your build :)

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

I've seen lots of people say "memory is memory." And I happen to share that belief.

Figure out the speed you want, personally I'd go for at least 1866MHz these days, but that's just me. And the size of the kit and the rest is purely aesthetics. If you post your motherboard model, people can give you recommendations regarding color, LEDs etc..

If you want LEDs on your memory, here's some that might interest you:

-Corsair Dominator

-Klevv Genuine

-Avexir Memory

CPU  5820k - 4.0GHz @ 1.27V  |  MOBO X99-Pro  |  RAM 16GB Ballistic @ 2133MHz  |  PSU HX750i

 COOLING  Kraken X61 - 6x NF-A14 iPPC  |  DRIVES  256GB 950 Pro - 2x 1TB Travelstar - 1x 1TB WD Black

GPU  EVGA GTX980 SC |  CASE  R5  |  OS  Win 8.1 Pro  |  MISC   Cablemod C-Series White Set

LEDs are a bonus on RAM. If your case has a side window and you can see your case from where you sit, then you can go for it.

Crucial makes very well known RAM and SSDs, I doubt that you would have any problems with it. And if it is DOA (Dead on Arrival), I'm sure they would be happy to send you a new set.

Good luck with the build!

Crucial is quiet fine but you can check cruciaal.s memory compatibility list to make sure the RAM you choose will work with your configuration. Now on to other choices....

  1. http://www.avexir.com/product/blitzspec-ddr3.html
  2. http://www.avexir.com/product/corespec-ddr3.html
  3. http://www.avexir.com/product/raidenspec-ddr3.html

also check Averix's support, i mean e-mail them for compatibility with your motherboard.

There are really only three manufacturers - Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Crucial is Micron's consumer brand, so you know where those memory chips came from. Most brands get their memory from the open market, could be any of the three major manufacturers. Not that it really matters, it's all following the same specification.
