I overclocked my cpu and ran intel burntest and it says its unstable but since it didn't crash i decided to stay with it. Now when i run intel burntests its perfectly fine and the max temps on 100% load dropped by 11 degrees

I would suspect that your thermal compound wasn't perfectly smooth when first applied (when is it ever). It probably is now. The cpu itself rarely becomes more stable over time without some outside factor..

The reduced temps are contributing to less resistance across the chip, which makes it more stable at lower voltages.

that's odd. it could have reported that it wasn't stable due to temps, and the thermal compound might have needed more burn in time / time to smooth out.
