I had done some digging for this news in some Chinese social media sites. Apparently there are tons of rumors surrounding this, like the iPhone in this incident is iPhone 4, not iPhone 5, or the iPhone was charging via an external battery while the external battery was also charging, or she used a counterfeit charger believing it to be genuine, as 9to5mac suggested. We still need to wait for more reports from officials and Apple to confirm the story.

There's no component within an iphone that can cause a person to die from electrocution. maybe she had an extremely unstable heart condition and she was statically shocked by toughing it :P

I don't think either one is very plausable

This is not possible. Even the wall adapter doesn't pull enough power to kill someone. I've gotten a small shock from my laptop's power brick before. Was trying to unplug it, but managed to touch the prongs. Worst I felt was a small amount of "vibration." If she was using some kind of bad quality adapter, that might be plausible.

Had the same experience too. Fortunately the plug was still taking electricity. If not, I don't think I'll be here typing.
