@Sankster i don't quite get you, as in the thermal paste from cooler to cpu?

My cpu have no thermal problem tho it remains below 45 celcius all the time, it is just the package temperature and north bridge(i assume after researching).

But yes i will still answer ur question no i didnt, i did not open up the cooler to check. Was it necessary?

@Sankster yup overheating but just not on cpu and motherboard, that's why i have no idea where it is.

Yup, i normally increase the cpu ratio first. 4.1 ghz on stock if not wrong. But to get higher i have to increase the voltage to keep it stable, normally i add 1 point which is 0.01 when 1 core fails in the prime95 stress test. So this is probably the lowest voltage for getting 4.5ghz.

5 minute of prime95 test and it reaches that temperature alrd, did not try to push it further as i have limited air flow inside now, so maybe it will be better after adding the 2 new noctua fans.

Its just not a smart build.  "Tech "Gurus" should know better than recommending such an unbalanced system.

Yea, save up for the i5-4690k + Z97 motherboard of your choice, that will be your best bet for gaming.  I wouldn't go with the Pentium.

I5 4440/4460 + H81 motherboard.

Bam done.

OP doesnt even need to spend that much .

h81 p33 is like 40 dollars.

@zappian like h81m-d from asus with i5-4440?

does the motherboard really good enough or have enough function because the price is real cheap here.

@zappian and does the performance will outweight amd that far? because it looks maybe just a bit better which does not make much difference. Sounds better for me to save up and go for i5-4690k with z97-a or asrock extreme 6.

Its good enough for what you need .

You just need a çheap motherboard from a reliable brand suçh as asus.

Loçked çpus dont need that powerful of a mobo , any basiç thing will do .

I would reççomed the gigabyte b85 D3H however , great motherboard for the priçe.

I'm overclocking fx 6300 on a 970 msi gaming board. It reaches 4.2ghz and anything above won't run even 5 minute on prime95. What could be the problem because I see people reaching 4.5 with ease and some even 4.7.

Eventually with that graphics card you really should really upgrade your CPU, but there's no rush. Just wait until Skylake/Zen to make it more worth it. 970 chipset motherboards usually aren't very good at overclocking and the FX CPUs are demanding of a very powerful motherboard especially when overclocking. I'm on a Sabertooth 990fx and I feel I could go further than 4.2ghz on this motherboard, but there's no reason to considering all the risk involved.

Keep your 4.2ghz and get to the lowest stable voltage you can. Either buy a new CPU now or wait until the new platforms and take another look at things

kk I'm sold I'm sold. I'm trying to get good 2nd price for my procs and mobo.

Now another question, if I wanna go 4690k,what is the mobo to go with. Not too ex but at least able to overclock well.

And will it be overkill for 970?

Or 4460 , 4440 will be more than enough?

No, any i5, locked or unlocked is a good match for the GTX970.  Unlocked will be better though for longevity, and day one performance in some games, such as GTAV.

If you buy the 4690k, you want a Z97 motherboard.  Any Z97 motherboard will do.  Intel has modernized and the voltage regulation is done on the processor, so VRMs of your Z97 motherboard don't matter unless you are going for world record overclocks.  Any Z97 mobo with the features, aesthetics and price you are comfortable with will do.  They are as inexpensive as $80 and will overclock the 4690k well with at least a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

The 4460 or 4440 will be enough, but the 4690k will be better, albeit, more expensive.

And I had checked the price i5 4460 plus b85 will cost about 100 usd more.

I'd just wait for Skylake and Zen and take another look at things (Which I actually am doing with my GTX 970/FX 6300) since it's not like it's the worst CPU in the entire world. I can still play whatever I want fine, and I really don't like wasting money

EDIT: You're going to sell your old CPU/mobo for the other one? That gives me an idea... That would be fine if you could do that!

Yup. Cause my procs and mobo is really new so people willing to get it on higher price. Lost about 30usd.

What is skylark and zen.

is it high end stuff or what? Cause I'm going for more of a value for 970.

4690k sounds more suitable for 980 or 970 sli build to me.

later gpu bottleneck then I have to change again I will be broke as hell.

i5-4460 and B85 aren't compatible.  You need either an i5-4440 + B85/H81, or you buy the i5-4460 + H97 motherboard.

The less expensive option is the i5-4440 + H81/B85.

You aren't in the U.S. are you?

If you want to go Xfire/SLI, then you should definitely look into an i5-4690k + Z97 motherboard that is SLI capable.

i5 4440 sounds good enough to me at this point. but does it beats after overclocked fx 6300 by a lot?

or it is wiser to go higher to 4460.

4690k and sli sounds expensive but is it good?

Always heard about single card is better than double.

But at the same time linus said about 970 sli beats 980 way way more with just a little bit more expensive.

Yes, the i5-4440 is better than even the highest overclocked FX processor.

If you can afford overclocking, then you should go for it.  It will last you much longer than a locked i5, while delivering better performance.

Yes, traditionally its better to have a single more powerful card, but more recently, SLI has become very good and scales very well.  Also, with DX12 it is rumored that you will be able to use multi-GPU setups for massive gains.  Mixing and matching GPUs, combining VRAM.  I think leaving yourself open to SLI makes a lot of sense.

If you can afford the i5-4690k + Z97(w/ SLI) Motherboard, that is what you should go for.  Even if the i5-4440 is enough, the unlocked i5 will last you much longer, and perform better from day one, especially in a game like GTAV that demands a very strong processor.

Asrock extreme 4?

Or z97 a by asus

I'm just trying to give you the best possible advice for what you are asking. If AMD offered something that was at least competitive at a lower price, then I would recommend you AMD.  I'm all about price to performance.

Spending an additional $100 now to get an unlocked and SLI capable system which should net you an additional 2-3+ years out of your system is a worthwhile investment over a locked i5.

Both of those motherboards, the ASRock Extreme4 and Asus Z97-A are excellent.

I personally really like Asus motherboards because of their incredibly easy to use software and fan control.  Plus, if you get Asus, I will be able to help you with your overclocking because the terminology is all the same.  You cannot go wrong with either though, they are both great motherboards.
