zapped when touching the case

Go to solution Solved by Flesky015,

I replaced the psu and it stopped zapping, thanks for trying to help tho

I have recently opened my case to add thermal paste, and when I closed the case door it zapped me and does that ever since

My cpu temps actually reach 90c-100c while booting.. while before it was 60c while gaming. I guess its somehow related

I have shut down the power supply using the switch before opening

I wasnt on a carpet while doing it

Any ideas?

It's a security feature!

But honestly, it could be static, it could be that the PSU isn't grounding properly.

Yes, both the one that connects to the pc and the one that connects to the wall

I suggest you use an Anti-static wrist strap and not work on carpet (if you are).

By the way is it bad if there's the static energy there? I heard static energy fries the motherboard.. I guess it's frying the cpu first?

I don't think the CPU Temps are related. I think you may have mounted your cooler improperly. try mounting it again to see if the temps improve. And as for the zap issue, I don't know

A friend just came to check the problem out, he said its a PSU issue not being able to give enough energy therefore it closes and the temps are because the cpu just keeps getting not enough power so it heats up quickly

Is there something wrong in his statement or he's correct?

We have removed and put the cpu cooler again, its still hot

carpet increase static build up. i have one metal cased pc on carpet and it always zaps me but dont worry if you got capped try touching every single ground point like metal on your case it usualy zaps you and you become neutral so there is really high chance that if you dont rub things and move away you will be neutral reletively to your pc

Your friend is wrong. Less power would not equal more heat. He has it backwards.

Honestly sounds like something is shorting out in the case. Definitely do as @sof006 has said. Take the system apart, find the loose screw or whatever it ends up being that is causing your case to be charged. A little tingle would be normal static discharge but if you actually feel the jolt then it's more than that.

Are you using a power bar?
I had this issue a while back, where my power bar was broken and everytime i touched the VGA Cable i would get a constant buzz. I replaced the power bar and it was fixed.
Try plugging it in to the wall without the power bar.
