safe gpu temperatures?

So I saw Linus' ultimate silent pc build and he set the Asus Strix 980's temp target to 85°C, but isnt that too high, my 970 has a temp target of 79°C which is already pretty high so why do they that, i mean isnt it gonna reduce the gpu's lifespan drastically?

Anything under 90c is safe. Higher temperature can reduce a gpu lifespan but it doesn't matter most of the time.

You can use MSI AfterBurner to set a Throutle Point (Mine is @85^oC)

Because the stock 290(x) uses so much power and the cooler kept it at something like 90c stock with the fan running pretty hard.

amd cards cant be running cool except maybe a NZXT kraken g10 with a NZXT X61 but an nvidia cards would be freezing with that cooler

i never have 90C temps around 70-80 and no the cooler doesn't sound like a turbine

Because you didn't have the stock cooler like I said... The chip itself is decently hot and uses a bit of power, but the biggest problem was that the reference cooler was so bad.

Nvidia default temperature target is 80c but anything below 90c is still ok.
