11 computers connected

Go to solution Solved by d3sl91,

It's a network. Assuming he is not using a domain or something crazy - it's 99% plug and play. One end goes into the computer, the other into a switch. So, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Honestly, if you cannot do a google search and are afraid to try.... Dont do it. You are asking us to google something for you. All we will do,. is put "networking" into google, and give you the links that look good..

This person called me up and said he want his office to have all the computers connected and said the server and everything is already done

and wanted me to Install windows on all of them?

The word Network scares....me,I got no idea how to deal with those things

Am I doing something I can't do?

Might be needing to connect the workstations to the domain. That's done through system properties, rename this computer -> domain.

Beyond that, if you've been asked to do it, someone has some faith in you, it's easy these days to do stuff that used to be pretty tricky.

If you advertise yourself as a technie and you're scared by networking, you really need to either hurry up and learn, grow some balls and learn on the job or just don't take the job.

..No? That should be easy, provided they have the Windows keys.

Installing windows is the easy part but anything apart from that zero experience

If there's something you don't know: Google is a glorious tool with fast answers. Peanuts' answer is pretty good, too.

Since I will be there i might not have access to it , and i want to screw anything up

I could, but you won't be able to go asking people on forums for links when you're on the job and get stuck. Need to learn ya search terms and tricks.

It's only when people's data's at risk that you need to worry about screwing up. If people could afford experienced professionals, they'd call them, but they don't so they have to understand those charging the low prices are still very much learning. If they start mumbling, just let them know it'll cost three times as much, take twice as long to arrive but be completed with confidence in an efficient manner.
