Weird Disk Issues

Go to solution Solved by josephrpalmer,

Swapped the ASRock for a MSI 970 Gaming and everything is so much better and faster, overclocking works much better and the disk issue is completely gone.

I have a AMD 8350 based PC with an AsRock motherboard, previously it has locked up and frozen because of a weird ssd issue which I solved by changing to AHCI (Should have done originally) but now the system is suddenly doing the same thing again. I have run several disk speed tests and its below other systems marginally but nowhere near the speed that should be freezing the system. I have a V300 with the newer cheaper flash and a Seagate Barracuda and both exhibit the same issue. I have updated all my drivers for chipsets and the BIOS and have no idea what the issue is anymore.

TLDR: Disks all show 100% usage but no r/w speed and system freezes

Its REALLY not advised to turn thoose off. Yes sure it works for a fix but does not fix the root cause, It will also hinder network (BITS) and OS performance (Superfetch).

Have you checked for any new SATA driver for your motherboard?

What does Resource Monitor say for disk usage?

Quack 🦆

Dont use any antivirus, just don't download from anywhere dodgy or use email that much. I actually use windows search so dont really want to turn it off.

Downloaded all the drivers a few days ago and its not changed at all. Resource monitor shows me this

It doesnt even say programs are not responding, it just makes everything freeze so I cant even get to the task manager.

Also running any kind of VM makes it have this problem instantly, CPU and RAM all stay below 50% too.

Won't disabling superfetch make system performance deteriorate over time?

Restart your computer also. If you get 100% disc usage on startup leave it alone for a while to cool down then come back to it

OK after a few days of having all of that disabled the problem still exists which means that it isnt the same issue you had. So any other ideas anyone?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling windows If you have the disc version.

Reinstalled it twice and no change, swapped a different SSD in and it has the same issue
