How much extra power would you need on the PSU to account for overclocking?

I am planning a first build in which I want to overclock the i5 4960k. I have chosen a build (link below) with an estimated <400W power usage, and so I chose a 500W PSU. My friend mentioned that overclocking increases power usage, this is something I haven't considered. How much power does OC-ing require?

Depends on the overclock...

For reference, my 5820k has a 140w TDP... but overclocked from 3.3 to 4.7, it draws about 240 watts fully loaded.

The projects never end in my line of work.

Based on that system, Including overclocking and possibly a second R9 Card, You'd be fine with a 600w, my i7-4790k doesn't pull more than 88w by itself.

go with a 600W for expansion purposes

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

I always like to recommend a power supply around the 850 range.  But that is for future expansion for extra cards and overhead if you do want to tinker with overclocking.

Don't forget if you want to overclock your GPU, that'll take more power too.

The projects never end in my line of work.

88W is only at stock speeds, once you start overclocking, that number becomes meaningless.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!

Most of you seem to have suggested a 600w PSU, so unless someone suggests otherwise then that's what I'll go for!

Hands down get this PSU http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-tp550c

The EVGA 500B is child's play compared to this PSU which has rock solid build quality and excellent performance, a fantastic deal for 52 quid. It will be perfect for your build overclocked.

620W Modular Antec PSU for just £65.

The TruePower Classic is much higher quality then the High Current Gamer and is even cheaper. Sacrificing modular though.
