GTX750 with 1GB v.ram , is it enough?

My friend is getting GTX750 for his low budget pc build, he's using 1600 x 900 monitor, so I told him 1GB is already overkill. But newer game like batman AK , AC Unity required at least 2GB of v.ram. So, he's worrying about it, meanwhile he doesn't want to spend extra A$20 to get 2GB ver. for nothing. so 1GB or 2GB?

thx

Running at that resolution, 1GB should be fine. Whats his budget as a 260/260x may fit in his price range.

Yep. Definitely 2GB needed. Get the 760 instead.

I see. Well a 750 is roughly the performance of my old 460 sli and I didn't have many problems with 1 gb of vram at 1080p. He would probably get along fine with 1gb but 2gb is better if he wants to be safe.

honestly 1 gig would probably be fine, but funny thing, when you run out of vram you run out of frame rates. 60fps down to 1 fps in no time. 20 bucks is absolutely worth the extra gig. if he grumbles tell him he could spend 20.00 or run the risk of having to turn down settings because his frame rate dropped to 1 fps because he didn't have enough vram.

i doubt, without enabling super sampling, that a game would need 3 gb of ram for 900p. 900p just isn't that high quality. i'm sure systems running a 4gb card have shown vram usage at 3gb at 900p but that's because games see available vram and gobble it up by caching to it just in case another program takes it by the time the game needs it.

thx, he said he doesn't care about graphic setting. as long as the game could run at 30 fps at lowest setting, he's happy.

IMO I just feel like 1 extra gig for 20 bucks is somewhat marketing, as GTX750 won't be able take full advantage of 2GB (that's why 750Ti is not far faster than 750), and 900p required less v.ram than 1080p. but Im not sure if the new generation game engine could be able to take an advantage of that extra gig.

i'm not saying that the 750 can make full use of 2 gigs, but 1.1 gigs of vram need = 1 fps. it doesn't slowly drop down in frame rate, the second you go over is the second your game becomes a slide show. but if he doesn't care about the settings then ya, by all means save the 20.00

Totally. If he even wants to have a somewhat decent gaming experience....I wouldn't bother with the 750. GTX 760 for sure or a used 670. I've seen someone selling GTX 670's for $120 around there....so , no way should he get a 750...they junk.

not the full 2gb, but it can use more than 1gb. the thing about vram is that you can be gaming at 60 fps at settings that fully use 1gb, but the second you use 1.1 gb of vram on a 1gb card you go from 60 fps down to 1 fps. not even exaggerating here.

I guess I'll chime in since I have the 1gig version.

From experience, I would just stick with the 1gig and call it a day. Before any of my games have ever used the full gig of vram, the 750ti is already dipping below 30 so even if it had 2 or 4gigs, it wouldn't really be an advantage. And sure newer games will use more and mods and etc etc, but then again, with those newer games, the 750 will struggle even more. Also, keep in mind I was able to overclock it to 1400 boost clock and even so, the card is doing very well with 1gig of ram. If you were to spend more money, I would use that extra money to actually get a better card.

Keeping that in mind, here's the link that will be best for what he is looking for. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500327R&cm_re=750_ti-_-14-500-327R-_-Product

It's $5 less than my $120 I paid for my 1gig version AND is the ti version, which does perform better than the 750.

Even my 7850 card which is better than the 750 had troubles with 1 gig vram in certain games. It did play FC4 fine at medium settings though but not high.

Thinking of selling it though. Let me know if you are interested. It's much better than the 750ti even at 1 Gig and it oc's very nicely.

I really doubt that any of those games, including some new ones, are going to have any issue with 1 GB of VRAM at 900p. At least not before the GTX 750's GPU hits a performance wall anyway.

What about the R7 260X? It's as fast as the 750 Ti, probably available for a similar price as the vanilla 750, and I think it comes with 2 GB anyway for whatever it's worth.

Edit: Sorry, it's already been suggested. Well, still a smarter way to go.
