I saw an ASUS motherboard advertisement that was showing off "USB 3.1"

What is this? Is it faster than USB 3.0, and can it charge devices without running on beefed up voltages?

USB 3.1 and USB type C aren't the same thing. You can have each without the other.

Usb 3.1 has speeds of 10Gbps

Usb 3.0 has speeds of 5Gbps

Basically USB 3.0 with the speed doubled. There's no power delivery increase with the Type-A plug on the Asus motherboard, it's Type-C that is made for more power handling, but I don't think that Type-C power delivery increased from 3.0 to 3.1.

But will there ever be a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 Type C connector on a mainboard? I would think that would just confuse things for users.
