Best cpu for sli

I have now 660 sli and a g3258. What is the best cpu for this system. At this point a 970 is not something I want and the 660s are just fine. Is a G3258 ok or do I need an i5 4690k? I like to overclock and have the G3258 at 4.5

This isn't a matter of SLI or not. 2 cores for modern games just don't cut it. If you are on a tight budget, get a non-OC i5

I would get a better CPU, maybe an i5 4460 if you don't want to spend much. The G3258 will hold you back in games.

Second computer, or is your signature a lie? ;)

I'd go for something like an I3 at least. If you can find a good deal. Or a lower level I5 and just forego the overclocking.

By how much? I have a 4770k in my current build I would be interested to swap and test fps.

So don't you think i3 will bottleneck 2 660s? :D My opinion that he should save money and go for i5 for a good performance though :P

well.... far cry 4 it would hold you back by 100%. it won't run on anything less than a quad core. this is the tail end of dual core gaming right here. other games would see significant bottlenecks. hell i'm not even sure if the pentium can properly feed an sli set up. try running a recent AAA game with msi afterburner running. monitor the GPU load for both gpus. that'll tell you what you can expect. turn vsync off for this. if the cpu is close to 100% usage and the gpus aren't well you have a bottleneck.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Yeah, maybe a 4460 might be a good call if you're not OCing....

FYI, you won't be able to go 3-way SLI (Not that I'd recommend it anyway....) unless you get a CPU with more than 16 PCIe lanes, which will be LGA 2011 for intel CPUs

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

and guys my planw as to get to an i5 during the summer or black friday. the g3258 was 50$ and a fun test. The 660s are fine for wgat i play and if the g3258 is good i wont upgrade but the i5 4690k or (open to suggestions of the lga 1150) something around 350 maybe.

Definitely not possible...and the costs would be huge! Once you factor in the expensive mobo and such.

So don't you think i3 will bottleneck 2 660s? :D My opinion that he should save money and go for i5 for a good performance though :P

Haha, perhaps a bit, but at least he'd be able to run games that require more than two cores ;)

And guys.  I have  660s and a G3258. I dont want to run out and get a new cpu just yet. If there is a big sale then fine. But I am out of cash right now. Micro center has the 4690k for 200 but I have no money now.
