RAM broken? help

yes i took the picture after opening the little brackets on the side to take out the part that was hanging off

well.. take both out and insert the "broken" into the first slot and boot with only that ram installed, if it doesn't boot it's dead.

So for the past 8 months or so I had an issue where my PC would randomly turn off and re-start, this would mostly happen during switching tabs in chrome to other thing such as word and excel.

When I posted that issue some advised me with looking into my PSU which may be faulty and I did, however the problem kept occurring so I learned to deal with it.

today I had enough with my PC being randomly slow, I opened task manager and it shown memory usage was at 6Gb out of the 8gb …. but I have a 16gb ram kit installed in it

I opened my case and I looked at my ram stick just partially in place and half opened with the glue side just hanging on (see the pics attached)

the questions are

how much damage has this done in general to anything ?

how could this have happened ?

is it anyhow salvageable

Should I take out the stick in the meantime ?

which RAM (16gb+) should I buy on a budget (50GBP)

my specs are

Geforce RTX 3050 8gb

Ryzen 7 1700

Gigabyte GA-320A-HD2 (MB)

Crucial MX500 1TB
Seagate Barracadua 2TB

Corsair RM550x

looks like the locking tabs for the ram aren't locked which is probably a sign that whoever assembled the machine didn't know what they were doing.

the thing hanging off is a decorative heat spreader to give the impression that the ram is more powerful/complicated than it actually is.

i will try that

and if you need to get new ram.. always get a pair.. and look up qualified vendor list QVL for that mainboard and look up the ram prices..

oh yeah.. you might need to check what cpu is supported in what config.

and since that's a summit ridge cpu.. this is the QVL you should look at. list

what bios are you running it on?
