So, as I have been using Vessel lately to watch LTT's videos; I wanted to see what others thought/felt about the service.

Personally, I am of a mixed mindset about it currently. I seem to always run into buffering issues(only for a second) throughout videos, which I swear gets more annoying as time goes on. I have a wired 150mbps connection, and never experience this issue otherwise. so I'm fairly positive it's a vessel bandwidth concern. Does anyone else run into this issue or similar?

I also seem to have "issues" with the quality, albeit it's mostly gripe.....at the "high" setting(which I assume is 1080p), the quality seems slightly less than the youtube variant(like aliasing or something, just slightly less defined, and by no means a deal-breaker). Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me being well...me?

I do however prefer the overall aesthetic design of the site, as well as the CORE functionality; and although I wish I had settings like I'm used to (profiles, favorites, etc etc) - I don't find myself going back to youtube for those features specifically, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

I also prefer that right now it is "small" and therefore much easier to find QUALITY videos from creators I enjoy, rather than the hundreds/thousands/millions of videos that just tend to float around on the dark side of youtube. That being said, youtube is still the only place to go when you want to go on a "recommended video" binge, and end up watching a video on how to shave a duck, because well...you can.

I guess largely my opinion aligns as follows: I prefer the "general use" of Vessel, but the quality/speed(As well as not working on browsers like Vivaldi), leave a sour taste in my mouth when contemplating using this as my daily video driver. Do any of you have similar concerns, or do you have a different perspective/outlook?

Also, how do you feel about the paid service? I don't like that currently i'm using the free trial of the service, and still get ads on every video. If I were to pay for the service, I would hope that the ads would disappear with that, and I would think the "free trial" should follow those same guidelines, or it's not really a trial(IMO). If it will remain this way even after being a paid member, does that bother you?

So I guess overall, I like the service for being easy to use, both in navigation and content searching, but I miss the "big company" perks like the bandwidth, video quality, and "advanced" features. Do yo share a similar viewpoint, or what are your thoughts?

Got the free year, used it twice, never used it again.

Part of it must be because of the habbit of going to youtube, but also because I find that it looks pretty, but in terms of functionality and ease of use, Youtube has it beat by a long way. It feels more like tumblr to me, which puts looks first, then functionality, which for something that you're going to be fullscreening most of the time, doesn't make sense.

There's also the fact that a lot of the content creators I watch regularly aren't on Vessel, so I find it easier to just stick to Youtube.

Maybe if they had a desktop app that made a little pop up when your selected creators upload a new video, then you just click it and it full screens in a video player (not in a browser), I might end up using it more.

One thing I noticed with Vessel was how many clicks it took me just to get to a list of all the latest videos, i mean i don't want the favorite ones or anything like that i just want to see all the videos in order of newest to oldest.

I do like the platform overall even if the comment system leaves a little bit to be desired but i'm sure they are working on it.

I don't mind it, it won't make me switch from youtube, I plan to use them both. The ads seem to be 5 second ads only, so they aren't very intrusive.

The only thing I use vessel for is LTT videos, so visiting the direct link ( http://vessel.com/linustech) means I don't have to go through their menu system to see my favorites and get to the LTT Channel.

I am finding it a little tedious when videos are uploaded to both platforms at the same time, specifically event coverage. I think stuff like event coverage should be uploaded to only 1 platform, youtube.

I haven't had any buffering issues with the videos on my 50/5 connection.

I like the platform overall, I just set my vessel bookmark to LTT's channel, so I'm where I want immediately. I don't really notice a huge difference between Vessel's high and YT's 1080p, but what bothers me most is that if I select anything but "auto" the sound is out of sync, on ANY video. Very annoying.
I also like Vessel's ads A LOT more then YTs. Instead of 30-second ads you CAN skip, Vessel just has short 3-5second ads that don't even pop every video.

TLDR: if they changed the quality settings to actual numbers like youtube and fixed the audio sync it would be perfect.

I also signed up for the free year, but don't use it.  I'm starting to get more and more sites I need to go to for vids.  Youtube, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Yahoo for Community, Crackle for Sienfelds' show... the list just keeps getting bigger.  I'd rather watch the older videos on youtube with all my other tech/gaming vids rather than going to another site.

Also, when I signed up for vessel I opted to follow or subscribe to a lot of other channels to see if I could find something else I liked, but really not liking the other content on vessel.  I'll stick to youtube.
