MInecraft running slow on new GPU

Go to solution Solved by Tedster,

Make sure that the only version of Java you have installed is 64-bit.

Hi!

I bought an ASUS GTX980 a while back and it's been working fine with 70+ FPS in FarCry 4 in ultra for example. But minecraft on the other hand is running quite slow and I'm getting lots of lag spikes. It actually ran better on my last GPU, GTX 650Ti boost. I'm suspecting that it has something with my OpenGL drivers or something

Computer specs:

CPU: Intel i7 2700K @ 4.0 Ghz

ASUS GTX 980 stock speeds

16GB DDR3 @ 533Mhz

Happy for quick answers, regards.

What @Tedster said. Very important. If you have it installed, I think you can go into the Mincraft settings and set how memory (RAM) it can use.

Why is your RAM running at that frequency by the way? Did you have that too when you had the 660 Ti?

Well it's DDR3 so it'd be 1066Mhz right?

Still, that doesn't sound good. I don't think it'd be the cause of the problem, however.

Sig under construction.

Depends on what frequency your RAM is running.

Lets say you have 1600MHz RAM (most DDR3 RAM has this) and since it runs in dual channel, it shows up in programs as 800Mhz (because 800 is half of 1600..)

I have RAM running at 1333 MHz (because my CPU is so good) and shows up like this in CPU-Z:

I probably explained this slightly worng, but this is a small explanation of it..

533MHz would probably mean OP's RAM is running at 1066Mhz.

Okay, I'm super confused now. I think I already understood but I'm not so sure anymore.

This means that I have a very similar setup to you, again dual channel. I thought that it was double data rate regardless of channels?

that explains the low frequency. Thnx

Minecraft sucks performance-wise.

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

OR, 533 * 3 = 1600

I think you have RAM running at 1333MHz too.

Went into my bios to show you it is running at that speed:

My RAM is running at that speed because my CPU can't have higher I think.

Not sure about your situation though (since you PC is a tiny bit better :P )

Oh, yeah that makes sense.

Very possible :)

Yes, mine's running at 1333Mhz. Windows says it too.
