Hi guys i have one 7970 3gb on pcie 3.0 x16; if i put second 7970 on pice 2.0 x4 can i get 6144mb of video memory in GTA5?

No, as of right now V-ram does not stack in SLI/Crossfire. Also, might be a bad idea to put another card on a 2.0 4x lane

Nope, the vram won't stack. You may be able to crossfire, but it doesn't sound like a great board, so it might not work.

I see a similar thing in Max Payne 3. It says I have over 6 ghz of vram because of my Crossfire R9 280s with 3 gb each. But I like to think I'm smarter, and I've adjusted my settings so that the estimated vram is less than 3 gb.

 

I guess Directx 12 is going to provide means to stack vram on multiple GPU setups if I remember correctly. Can't wait for that! Most likely none of the current games are going to take advantage of that. Hopefully it's not another layer of development like coding for multiple CPU cores. Otherwise we may never see this feature to fruition.
