Hey everyone, I need a new laptop for music production and perhaps light gaming on the go, I have a desktop pc and understand the benefits but I need something mobile. What would you recommend for 7-800 USD? Doesn't have to be pretty or light/slim, just a portable laptop

HP used to be so good...

Acer is fine though, but I agree with dell and gateway.

Acer tends to be lacking in build quality, from my experience, they use a shitload of plastic, and not a lot of metal, and its not even a high quality plastic, its cheap shitty stuff.

Some decent laptop brands:

- ASUS

- MSI

- Gigabyte

- Lenovo

(There are some other good ones, these ones just came to mind for me, and yes, these brands do have some products that are kinda shitty, but a majority of them are rather nice.)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Avoid the big box brands, like HP, Dell, Gateway, etc. I would go with a manufacturer that also makes desktop PC parts, like Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI. Lenovo and Sony are also good laptop brands as well.

My HP is total crap. Heating on it is such a big issue, and plus, now the intel driver it shipped with won't work anymore. it's stuck on basic driver and now i can't play anything decent since it doesn't have pixel shader 3.0.6

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

Weird.. My dads HP (core 2 duo, amd 4XXX) stays pretty cool, especially for the old components.

It's really nice to be honest. LED 1080p screen, nice keyboard, nice on the eyes, etc.

(keep in mind its from 2009)

Mine is from 2013 and can't stay under 70C idle. It's got a 900p screen and it's just all plastic. Shitty quality plastic.
