Alright, so I got my first job (yay) and have about 1000$ saved up. I have a z97 board already (z97s sli krait edition) and I'm getting 16gb ddr3 1600mhz from my brother. I have my eye on the 980 (ti if that comes out) and everything else is typical stuff (wd black and a 120gb ssd + NZXT case.) However, I'm confused about processor choice. I'd like to overclock and I'm definitely getting an i7, but should I get a 4790k or get a broadwell? I want the most out of my CPU, and IDGAF about power usage. Will broadwell overclock better than haswell (higher clock speed), and will it do better on benchmarks if I ran both the best broadwell and haswell i7's at the same speed? For example, getting a 4790k to 4.6ghz and a (insert name here) broadwell i7 @ 4.6ghz, will they do the same in benches, or will one be noticeably better?

4790K for a few reasons. Prepare you self for some next level thinking (and a video). NOT ALL GIGAHERTZ ARE THE SAME. *DRAMATIC GASP*. With Haswell, you have lower clock speeds, but you have more instructions per clock. Just watch this video. It explains it quite well and you get to see Slick explain it and not me:

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

- Cave Johnson, founder and CEO of Aperture Science, in Portal 2

Brodwell has lower power consumption but LOWER overclock potential. This is because of more transistors on the die, ever wondered why FX overclocked so well?

So my recommendation is get a 4690K (If yo gaming_, and use the money saved to get a 295x2.

Or a better version of a 980 (AIB)

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni
