Worst Overclock Ever? - GTX 760

Hello, first time posting here! I just want to share with you guys my first overclock. I have a EVGA GTX 760 2G SC version

 

So the best overclock I can get out of this card is this... +78MHz on GPU Clock offset and +0MHz on MEM Clock offset. If I push it to +91 on GPU, the first time won't crash, but the second time it will. Memory clock will always crash.. I have no idea why...

I don't know if I am doing it wrong, or I just got a really bad card? I want to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

I ran Furmark 1.15 first, crashed in there and then I benchmarked with 3DMark.

Whats are the in game clocks? a gpu score of 9000 in 3dmark 11 seems about right, as i got around 17000 with 2 of them.

 

for me anything over 1240 on the core, and 1750/7ghz on the memory would crash in game but benchmarks would seem of for a bit higher clocks, and my cards weren't particularity good by any stretch of the imagination.

Hi Karango,

Yes, the benchmarks looks fine, but when I run GTA 5 on Medium to high settings, it struggles with about 30 fps...

Also, why I can't even overclock the memory speed?

I will post some benchmarks later

This guy has similar PC specs so I copied his/her settings and I noticed that he got 2083MB on the video memory while I have 2606MB, do you know what's going on?

Did you add more voltage to the card and a higher power limit when overclocking or did you simply change the core clock? If you only changed the core clcok without changing the voltage and the power limit, then this is your problem and in that case, +78mHz on the core clock is not too shabby

I max my volts and can't get a core bump but I can get my memory to increase by 650. Which actually helps in something like GTA V

Just keeping this here as a My fastest 760 can do 1280/6360 @1.212v and my slowest is 1241/6360 @1.212v. You should try adding the additional voltage if you haven't yet, while it may not seem like a lot it enables my slower card to clock match my faster card @1241/6360 so it's worth a try. Keep in mind that the more you OC your core the less voltage there is for the memory to use and the same is true the other way around because the 760 doesn't have auto balancing power rails. You need to find the best balance between the two or go all out on one of them. Some games will benefit more from faster VRAM than they would from a faster core, this is because of the 256bit bus on the 760 so you should experiment to see what games benefit more from and set up profiles for each game to get the most out of your card.

 

All in all an 1150Mhz core clock isn't great but it's still 170Mhz over reference speeds so that's something.

This guy has similar PC specs so I copied his/her settings and I noticed that he got 2083MB on the video memory while I have 2606MB, do you know what's going on?

How do I paste my screenshot on this forum?

It might be the game freaking out, because the 760 only has 2gb of vram, so the memory usage will not go above that...

Did you add more voltage to the card and a higher power limit when overclocking or did you simply change the core clock? If you only changed the core clcok without changing the voltage and the power limit, then this is your problem and in that case, +78mHz on the core clock is not too shabby

I did not add more voltage, I know +78mhz is decent without any additional voltage, but why can't I overclock my memory? I did it by +50 intervals. It crashed even when I only added +10mhz

Okay! Thanks for the reply, I will try adding voltage! Also, I got a stable overclock with +78mhz on core clock, but when I go into game, it still crashes, I think Karango already said something about this, so I went back to stock... but I still don't know why the guy in YouTube gets very stable fps with minimal stutters, but I only get about 35~40fps on medium settings...(lastest 350.12 drivers that nvidia gave me)
