Can I upgrade my mobo and still use the same cpu?

CPU: Phenom II 1090T Black Edition

Socket: AM3

Current Motherboard: Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5

I was curious to know if i can upgrade only my motherboard to a AMD 970 / 990X / 990FX chipset motherboard, these are socket AM3+

Will my AM3 socket CPU work in a AM3+ motherboard?

Seems like it?

You can put an AM3 processor in an AM3+ socket, but not the other way around.

Yeah it will work fine. Your 1090T is on the CPU support list for the GA-990FXA-UD5, for example.

Yes. AM3+ supports previous AM3 CPUs, that is what the plus means and why it's not AM4 ;) That's how AMD's naming convention goes.

That actually makes a lot of sense..

Well, @plutomok , seems like you can

Nice!

My current motherboard hasnt aged too well, rear audio has become really weak over time, Front panel audio pins dont work, no usb 3.0 header, half of my sata ports no longer work.

Really looking forward to an upgrade now
