Can somebody explain this please?

Ever since I built my new system I've been having this problem with my wireless USB adapter. http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN823N-Mini-Sized-One-Button-10-4-10-8/dp/B0088TKTY2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1429503954&sr=1-3&keywords=tp+link+wifi+usb

 

It worked great in my old system getting me pretty close to my advertised speeds from Comcast - it would get me no less than 25 mbps down on a bad day. Up is always around 11-12.

Now I can barely stretch 15 mbps down on my new system. We did not move the router. The adapter works just fine in my laptop. What's causing this? I should point out that, at 9:30 PM here I'm getting these speeds and am running only gmail in the background. Drivers are up to date as they were on my old system.

Any help? BTW, when the adapter is placed in the front of the system (front IO of my case) I get about 40 down. Didn't need to do this with my old, crappy LGA 775 system and no-name motherboard.

You are confusing lan with wan. You local network speed is likely not the bottleneck for your internet speed. Test it by transferring somthing over lan

I was under the assumption that something involving my system was the issue, but thanks.

if you place the adapter in the front..and are getting better speeds...then it just means you are getting interfearance from the new pc...maybe the case..or something...you should just get a usb extension cable and put the usb adapter up high on the wall somewhere

The only thing changed was the mobo, CPU and RAM - nothing. Is there something wrong with the motherboard possibly? My old system had the exact same configuration minus the CPU, mobo and RAM and I just don't know exactly why it's so much worse. Does it on both Windows 7 and 8.1. Haven't tried it on Ubuntu yet.

 

I might just sit it in the front I/O if it really is this much of a problem, it'll just look ugly.

is the usb adapter plugged into usb 3 or usb 2 ports

Doesn't seem to work in USB 3 (as in it will find a connection but can't register a download speed on an Ookla speedtest) so I am forced to use USB 2. It's a USB 2 device.

Latest ones from Realtek.
