So over the next couple of months I plan on saving up some money and going over to intel. I am going to get an i5 4690k and asus z97 mobo. My questions is will I need to re-install windows and/or anything else with the new motherboard?

When you're switching Motherboards and CPU Architecture it is 100% Recommended to reinstall Windows as not only will the drivers be cleared out for the new but Windows will require re-activation anyway.

You will be able to boot after windows self repairs for 5 min, then just uninstall any drivers u dont need on the new rig.

Not true i move my SSDs around from PC to PC and windows just self repairs. Even from my amd desktop to i5 rig.

It would be better to re-install windows, but you don't HAVE to. Great upgrade btw

Before you take out your old motherboard and processor, uninstall all the drivers related to both of them, including chipset, audio, LAN, SATA, AHCI, and RAID.

You don't necessarily have to reinstall Windows. Just try to boot it up once without reinstalling. If it doesn't boot, reinstall. If it does boot, but has noticable performance drops or constant crashes or freezes, reinstall. If it boots and works with no problems, you're a wizard.

To reinstall Windows, just contact microsoft to ask for another product key and tell them that you have to reinstall. I think the full(retail) versions of Windows licenses can have up to 3 installations.

After all that just download and install the drivers from the motherboard's and processor's website :)

Laptop: 2023 Macbook Pro 16" - M2 Max | 64GB RAM | 1TB SSD

Windows usually attaches its licensing protocols to the motherboard as Windows usually acts that if the motherboard has been replaced that its no longer in the same computer requiring re-activation.

That has been the way Windows Activation has worked since XP.

Before you take out your old motherboard and processor, uninstall all the drivers related to both of them, including chipset, audio, LAN, SATA, AHCI, RAID, and video drivers.

No need to ask for another key because if it wouldn't activate online the phone activation has always worked for me :).
