Just thought some people would be interested in knowing how different CPUs compare in GTA V

As you can see, AMD CPUs are quite the bottleneck, reducing average fps by 5-15fps

Also this shows that a 4 core i5 is a much better option than an i3 with 2 cores 4 threads

Playing it on a i7 4970k @ 4.6Ghz with 2 6970s (not in xfire, it runs well. havent tried in xfire yet) Overall I am happy with this release.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Cool...

You do know AMD is generally the budget option, not the extreme performance option.

Which is why I have the system I have, had to build an inexpensive system that could run games decently and render videos when necessary

It shows that AMD CPU's still have some power left though, They are pretty old now so it is quite suprising they are still somewhat holding on against Intel in games that uses all cores.

I know someone running the game on an old quad core bulldozer black edition and a 660. When paired with a matching GPU, the AMD cpu's are fine and provide all the performance needed. Certain advanced and regular graphic settings are hard on the cpu and even beat the crap out of high end intel cpu's, and causes hitching, stuttering etc. Just watch TB's video if you disagree. All in all its a great pc game that supports more hardware than need be for a AAA title.

So a Pentium 3258 overclocked would beat my FX6100, legit.

Yep, it does.

That would be fine if it was actually significantly cheaper. But it isn't. A i3-4160 is much cheaper and a 4460 is priced the same as a 8320 + board. It's a shame, but even on a budget Intel has better options. It's not really far-fetched AMD is doing so poorly financially. When you play the budgetcard too long, eventually your products lose credibility.

And with these games having so many drawcalls right now that DX11 is basically done-for, low-IPC CPU's really struggle on the mainthreads.

so u are saying that 70fps+ is unplayable?  lol... :D

Considering how often they go on sale they are for sure the budget option, I got my 8350 for $100 +tax, which made it a no-brainer option for me, I also got my 2 7770's for $75 each, they go on sale so often that they are the budget option for sure

This.

The i3 is a great budget çpu.

I made a thread about it with bençhmarks.

Really good , and it beats the 8xxx çpus in 80% of games for a lower priçe.

AMD is NOT the budget çhoiçe anymore.

Their only deçent budgte çpu is the 860k.

But combined with a board and mandatory cooler, it's still not cheaper as a Haswell i3 or i5. Not significantly atleast, and it loses significantly in newer consoleports.

It's not a terrible CPU, it's just not the best option even on a budget.

So the whole "AMD is best budget/value" needs to go away already. Atleast not without context.

Yeah but when you get a golden CPU like I did it's a no brainer, (Can achieve 5.1 GHz)

Yes, not everyone can achieve what my CPU can, but I couldn't have done better for the money I spent

its a performance comparison...

if you play at higher settings or higher resolution that 15fps difference can be the difference between laggy stuttering and smooth 60fps

also keep in mind these are average framerates

frame drops can go much lower

Indeed, you def. cannot buy winning lottery numbers. Some sites test them and sell them at a small premium if they're golden samples. But that defeats the purpose of a budget CPU.

Your system, 8350 + M5A99FX + DRP 3 buys you a 4690K, ASUS Z97 Pro gamer and a 212 Evo in the netherlands. So yeah.. not really any competition in terms of value. And we don't have microcentre's or these mail-in rebates or whatever.

I got mine by pure luck from NewEgg, got my mobo for $100 flat also on sale from NCIX. I don't have a MicroCenter near by me at all sadly

average framerates include frame drops... thats why are they called average...

average framerates are not an accurate depiction of frame drops because average frame rates are recorded over long periods of time (several minutes)

frame drops last a hundredth of a second, not enough to be registered as a significant difference in the average framerate value

this is why many benchmarks show min/max framerates too, and you can see that having a certain average fps means nothing about how low the minimum framerate goes

Agreed fully. Average frames per second is a relative metric that cannot determine the user experience or performance where it counts. I really wish reviewers would use better metrics like minimum frames and frame time graphs more often, and ditch the average fps metric. of course, gsync and freesync are amd and nvidia's answer...

No, the pentiums choke and die in GTA V.

Also you have a decent clock speed which will bring you up around 8350 \evels.
