New GPU causing screen issues

Hey guys,

Today I installed my new R9 295x2 Dual GPU. Went to boot up, and the screen was a weird colour and resolution which I thought was normal as my drivers probably weren't for the exact model. So, I go to install the new ones with the disc given. Sadly the monitor turned off! After several thousand tries, it is just inconsistent. Sometimes it is the normal 1920 res, sometimes it is blurry and horrible, sometimes the monitor doesn't show anything at all... and sometimes it gives me either one long beep and three small ones, or one long beep and four small ones. It's an Asus motherboard. The PCI E connectors are on their own wires, not daisy chain, and my psu is an AX860i.

I just put my old GPU back in and my computer works fine... so, it is an issue with my new card. I have reseated it several times. Each time I manage to have the screen on, I get to the point of installing the right drivers, but when it asks me to restart... well.. the restart doesn't go so well and I get a black screen. urgh.

Any ideas? Please tell me it isn't a damn faulty card...

DDU? You mean having both in and running off my old one to try and get the other setup? 

 

My old one is a R7850 2gb, so the same make at least. Would my PSU be okay to support that one along with my new one? I'm aware the x2 is power heavy.

i actually expected you to be coming from an nvidia card so it would be more likely for the drivers to fuck up

Nah I'm an AMD kinda guy! 

I uninstalled the drivers and booted up fine with the new card. I then installed the new drivers, restarted... and got a blue screen. Any more suggestions? Sadly it has not.

reboot and see if you get any more bsod's?

Nope. I'm getting the same as before now... black screens... or some where the screen appears for a little bit and then goes black. Back to square one it seems! I appreciate the help by the way!

Can you check the card when running? Like temps, load, etc. before it crashes?

Yeah, it isn't sudden either. It is like a slow fade which takes about 2 seconds before going dark and then stays like it. I'm really confused as it isn't always happening.

I managed to look at temps and nothing seems unordinary, so really not sure. My computer absolutely fine with my old GPU back in!

Have you tried a different pcie slot yet? very low chance since your old card runs fine but whatevs.

All power connector plugged in correctly without adapters?

Where do the 12gb of vram come from? Thats not really usual with dual channel.

 

Maybe a new Win Installation would help but that'd be the last thing i would do ^^

Yeah tried a different slot, same issues. No adapters either. 12gb DDR3 ram, sorry I didn't say the type.

We thinking it is faulty then?

Ah yeah that is the config. Not a usual one I know. two sticks of four and two sticks of two!

I don't have another PSU that can handle my new GPU sadly as it is power heavy... 

Where I plug the PCI E cables in on the PSU, is that likely to make a difference?

are you using a daisy chained psu cable?

 

i mean the 295x2 has two 8pins, are you running two seperate cables to the psu or just one that is later on split?

Two entirely separate ones for sure. No risking with the daisies!

If it does, could be an driver issue, download latest catalyst driver and don't install, remove catalyst control centre and shut down, put the R9-295 back in and then reboot and install the new catalyst control centre,

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when the windows icon appears, there are slight colour glitches or it freezes. I'll give it a go, but I have pretty much trie that already... I'm thinking it is faulty

Hmm okay. Well the PSU works fine with my other GPU? So... it has to be the card then? Thanks for this by the way!

Sadly this didn't work...

Also I am now getting a CPU fan error too or an CPU overclock error sometimes with my old GPU in. It's making me think the PSU is the issue now, and is faulty. After three goes at turning the PC with my old GPU it has finally worked. However, the CPU fan and overclock warnings have got me worried.

The PSU may have taken the new GPU down with it?

Ideas?
