I recently watched Junkyard wars and it made me realize I can upgrade my current computer with some old used parts off ebay.

Current specs are

Phenom 2 x 2 550

4 gigs of DDR2 1066 ram

9800 GTX+

I'm thinking of getting an Phenom 2 x 4 (highest core count my mobo supports) as well as 4 more gigs of ram.

As for the graphics cards the cheapest options seem to be either a 2gb 6970 or a 2 gb 7850. 6970 seems to perform better (slightly) but the 7850 is newer (I don't care about power draw.)

My only question is will the 6970 be able to support dx12? If not, I'll get the 7850.

I am not sure that both of them will even support it properly! Even the 7850!

what games will you be playing?

Last game I just got through playing was Dark Souls 2. Have to play Scholar of the First Sin on a laptop because no DX11 on the 9800 gtx+. Want to play Rise of the Incarnates which is a f2p game (lol.)

I don't plan on playing anything like GTA5, Battlefield, or FPS in general.

The only reason I really even want to ugprade is the games literally wont run (no dx11 on 9800 gtx+ :( :( :( ;___;) If it wasn't for that I would still be happy with those last gen console tier specs lol. I figure the 7850 will allow me to run a new game on low-medium on 720p if push comes to shove and I want to play a new, more demanding game.

I plan on making a new computer after purchasing a car, so for now <200 dollar upgrade path is fine with me because I play non demanding games and emulators all day.
