scared of 1440p performance?

Air tree

So i'm building on my first pc in a few months and planning on using the 9970 when it comes out and i am slightly worried the performance i will get at 1440p, has anyone here gamed alot on 1440p and can you tell me your average performance on the games you play? do you have to turn down a few settings? do you have to tweak alot of things? and from what i seen you don't even need AA at 1440p because of how many pixels are there.

depends on what games you play but nobody knows the 1440P results of the 9970 yet its hard to tell but the higher vram cards get more FPS on the high end you will have to wait for the benchmarks for the exact fps it might get.

You'll probably have absolutely nothing to worry about when using a 9970 at 1440p.  A single 7870 runs pretty well at 1440p, getting 40+ fps on Battlefield 3 with most settings maxed out.

It is impossible for anyone to know the performance of a non existent graphics card. Wait till it comes out then read reviews. 1440p is quite demanding.

that's good, but i imagine the only game i would have to worry about is crysis 3 at the moment haha.

Im sure as they will try and push for 4k performance that 2560x1440 will play quite well. You will play the moderate games with no problems but crysis, metro etc will struggle.

yeah metro 2033 and last light on 2560x1440 brings a 690 to it's knees at times.

Metro Last Light, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, all games like that will struggle to be played at 1440p with max settings on a single GPU and sometimes even double GPU configurations.  If you don't enable any graphical filtering then you may get decent fps and hopefully the 9970 will be comparable to the 780 in performance.

Far cry 3 gets good performance at 1440p on a gtx 780 and the 9970 is expected to get better performance than the 780, so happy days :P

Remember that at higher resolutions the need for filters is less so you wouldn't need to have those maxed out or even enabled. There can be a large difference in fps with filters on max and turned off. Trine 2 GTX 770 has ~140 fps @ 1440p w/ out filters and ~60 fps @ 1440p w/ filters on maximum. These results are from Tek Syndicates review. These are what I remember at least.

i think if you don't use AA or use it very little, it should do fine. Frankly, I don't think you need that much AA on 1440p anyway

Everything should be fine then, I'm also getting the 9970 when it comes out so I'll post some benches of what fps I get at 1440p with different games.
