CPU Question (I'm a Skrub)

I was just wondering i have laptop that has an Intel i7 740Q, I believe, could i use that CPU in a future build. I'm guessing probably, but I'm trying to make that it will work 

You mean you want to take out that mobile CPU and put it in a new desktop that you will make?

Yeah, mobile CPU's are usually soldered to the motherboard.  Plus they require a different chipset.

All CPU sockets are proprietary.

All Sockets are proprietary, but mobile sockets and desktop sockets will be different.

Actually most laptop CPUs aren't soldered, but they're still different sockets.
