Both builds don't make the most sense.

 

I can't do much to judge aesthetics, but you should downgrade to the 4690k if you're not doing anything extremely processor intensive (which you shouldn't be considering only 8GB RAM), then go with a Z97 motherboard that's capable of SLI, so you can SLI 970s down the road and get a beefier power supply.

 

There's your thousand dollars done. Also, please add at least a cheap SSD.

As far as performance, #1, but I would get a Z87/97 motherboard for a little more money. I think the red one looks slightly better though

i second this, you would regret not going with a z97 board in the future.

TBH if you tell us which color you like better we could help you make something more optimized for you around the same price and make it pretty colors lol. If you can't decide even both colors.
