x99 vs z97

Go with the z97 for just gaming. X99 is mainly used for workstation systems.

X99 for gaming. Thats the question everyone can answer here. Its slightly more expensive than a mid range Z97 build, it features 2 more phyiscal cores and more lanes. The list of differences is big. I personally, dont think it is worth it. Unless you dont have a budget or you are planning on doing content creation, the 5820K is wasted simply.

Ok, so if I am saving money and going z97, should I maybe consider z97- i7?

yes, that would make a lot more sense, the i7-4790K is a BEASTLY CPU when it comes to gaming.
