RAM decreased boot off time?

You're not funny. You will never be.

Hmm, FASTER! :D

Sounds kinda logical, but I didn't think it would make much difference for shutting off my PC.

Well think of it like this -

You have to close 10 programs, 8 of them are on RAM and the 2 are on pagefile

When you shutdown, 8 of them are gone instantly and the comp has to wait for 2 which is on the Storage drive

But with more RAMZ

You have to close 10 programs, 10 of them are on RAM and none on pagefile

When you shutdown, 10 of them are gone instantly and your comp shuts down

A short while ago I installed 4GB of random RAM extra into my PC.

Now I have 8GB RAM.

And it seems like every since than, my PC boots off quicker. Like, quite a bit quicker.

I am not worried, but does this sound like it could be true?

Yes that might make sense, more ram could ya know, do things more quicker...

But wait for someone else to explain... I suck at explanations...

Yeah, that sounds about right.

If there's not enough RAM it uses HDD, which is much slower.. Slower to write on, but also slower to read from.

If there's no RAM business on the HDD, it doesn't have to clean that one off and the PC can shut off quicker.

I think that's probably how it works :D

Don't be worried, your system should be faster from adding more RAM. When you have a lot of stuff running(or just memory intensive programs in general), they will fill up that 4Gb quick, but will use more than 4Gb. Those programs can get away with this, since it moves some of the stuff from the RAM into the swap space in your hard drive(pagefile for Windows). When you shut down, Windows has to remove the stuff from the swap space, adding time and working your system harder. When you boot, some programs immediately have to go into the swap space, since Windows trys to keep the RAM free for the user(but in return, adds time to boot up).

THis is why I can't recommend 4Gb any more and for "heavy users", 16Gb is a must.

I max out my 8GB pretty much all the time :P

4GB is not something you want for the stuff I do and a lot of people are doing I suppose

There are very few scenarios that I'll actually recommend 4Gb of RAM. Mostly special use Windows machines(like light use servers) or Linux machines(since they don't hog the memory like Windows), but other than those 8Gb is the minimum for me and 16Gb is the sweet spot.
