This is for my aunt, all she uses her computer for is basically just the internet. It's slow as hell so I want to install Linux to try and squeeze a little more speed out of her PC. I will still be keeping her Windows partition.

If it's a really old system, then use lubuntu.

If it's old, but not that old, use xubuntu.

I suggest lubuntu. It looks alot like Windows as well.

I would go with Mint for her as it looks more like windows. If you want to make it as painless as possible you could try Zorin - it's designed to mimic windows and make it easy for windows users to switch to linux.

My personal favourite is Elementary OS- It looks good, runs fast and was happy to run on a 1.5ghz single core celeron M (half a meg of cache), half a gig of DDR Ram  and no video drivers (my laptop from 2003 that I still use, it's been upgraded a bit now and I am typing it out on it, still with elementary os and no video drivers).

Well it's too late now, I'm already downloading Mint, and I'm on 1 megabit connection so I'm not going to restart the download now lol (I'm 426mb in and it's been downloading for about 2 hours lol)
