Can you put a pci express x1 capture card into a pci express x4?

Hi all,

I'm buying a capture card and was wondering, as my pci express x1s seem to be blocked by the gtx 970, could you put the capture card in a pci express x4 as that is not blocked? The capture card is a Avermedia live gamer hd lite for reference, the motherboard is a gigabyte gaming 3

Really appreciate any support,

Rupert Smith

Yes,

My basic understanding of this is that it will not affect performance, I have a 1x soundcard in a 16x slot and it works the same as when it was in my 1x slot. I moved that because of a clearance issue with my GPU.
